Would you keep the sex of your baby secret for 11 months?

Postby handbagsatdawn » Mon Sep 16, 2019 4:15 pm

Find this SO unbelievable. This couple didn't tell the grandmother of their baby the sex of their newborn for 11 months to avoid gender bias. Am I being naive? I just think that it seems a bit excessive?

I'm with you handbagsatdawn; love the name by the way  :D  I can't help but think its all a bit right on. What are they thinking will happen. Unisex clothes and gender neutral games (there are loads) would be quite enough I would think?

From a practical perspective they didn’t let anybody else change nappies? For that alone it’s worth ‘announcing’ the gender.

Hmmm,

I think "Gender Bias" is a smokescreen since it would only affect a child as it grows beyond a baby and makes it's way in the wider world as it interacts socially with others.

I would guess the real reason for this is that the parents believe in the myth that sex is a social construct rather than a biological fact and are trying to practice that myth with their own child.

Gender bias is pretty clear in that photo.  One's the dad, the other the mum.  These are the facts unless there is medical intervention or a rare biological quirk.  They can pat each other on the back with smugness as presumably they leaked the story.
