Is it worth buying Miele? Post Reply

Good morning

We are about to move house and need to purchase a new washing machine and tumble dryer.  This is a house we intend to live in for a long time and have two children.  I am wondering if it is worth buying Miele products despite them being more expensive?  The reviews on all their products look very good but they aren't the cheapest things ever - then again, if they last for 20 years it will be worth it.  

If anyone had any feedback I would be incredibly grateful.

We bought Miele products in our last house and brought them to our latest house they were really fab and very quiet. I would say go for it if you can afford them.

We went with J Lewis own brand this time around as that suited our pockets better. I can't say that I have noticed any major differences in quality but I doubt that they will last as long.

Yes! Most definitely.

We kitted out our new kitchen with Miele but sourced it all either from the Miele outlet in Abingdon (well worth the trip, even more so when they have a sale on!) or kept an eye out on eBay for exdisplay items.

We have a miele washing machine and a bosch dryer. Both seem good but it's hard to compare because I've never used anything else. Neither is particular quiet but I've had both for 10 years and both are still going strong with no problems whatsoever.

We have a Miele washing machine.
I like the fact you don’t have to put washing liquid in every time, it’s all built in (and you can adjust the amount it puts in according to how soft your water is).
Various programmes are easy to store and use, and it is quiet while it’s running.
Also you can do everything from the app...except turn off the VERY annoying beep it does continuously when it’s finished - you have to go and press the button to open the door. I have sworn at it more than a few times. There doesn’t seem to be an option to stop this.
But I like the fact it sends an alert to your phone when it’s done as I quite often forget I’ve put washing in.
On the whole I’d recommend.

I’m a bit of a Miele sceptic I have to say. I have two Miele ovens and a microwave and various bits have broken over the years. The two ovens cook at different temperatures which is really annoying. We also have a Miele washing machine and tumble drier and I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference at all compared to cheaper brands (eg Bosch) that I’ve had in the past. They’re also really annoying in that the doors are hinged on the ‘wrong’ sides so that when both doors are open they touch each other (I have the usual placement of the washing machine in the left and tumble drier on the right) which makes taking things out of the WM and putting them in the drier a pain. I am finding a lot of my clothes are getting holes in them so I don’t think the WM is very gentle. Also it was quiet when it was first installed but now makes a racket (it’s 6 years old). Apart from the snob factor I don’t think there’s any reason to buy Miele. I have a Siemens dishwasher and it’s way better than the Miele one I used to have.

Forgot that! Doors are very annoying - have WM on left too and transferring stuff into the drier is not straightforward.

Miele vacuum cleaners are excellent in my book, powerful, quiet and light to carry around - a view supported by our cleaner and she should know!...It's also robust and well made and despite being knocked around the accessories, tubes and body showed no signs of wear.

However I have had to replace them twice since the last two failed after about five years. In the case of the one I've just replaced the motor seized - a new motor alone (without paying for a technician to fit it) would cost £179 from Miele Parts...whereas a brand new one on special offer from Curry's cost us £139 - no contest!

Mind you Curry's asked me if I wanted to buy a 4 year guarantee plan - if they would have made it six years I would have gone for it!...However since you  pay for parts I would still have been £40 out of pocket against buying a new one!

We also bought a Miele washing machine replacing a Bosch - six years on it's still performing like new...touch wood...

Also I believe that Miele is an independent company proud of it's engineers and designers who design products up to a quality standard rather than down to a price whereas Bosch-Siemens-AEG are one giant conglomerate sharing parts...building for the mass market so the quality is much less than Miele.

Absolutely yes! I’ve had washing machine and dryer since 1999 and they are still going strong. So worth the money.

I have the washer, dryer, and vacuum. Absolutely amazing. Only had it for two years though so not sure of longevity. But beats any washer, dryer, and hoover I have used before.

Other appliances eg ovens, hobs, etc I don't know. I opted for other brands.

Thank you so much all really useful!  I had forgotten how much moving house costs  .  Luckily not planning on doing it again any time soon.   Gone for Miele, ao.com seems very well priced and can deliver on moving day!  Thanks again
