Review of 'Goldilocks and the Three Musketeers' at the BAC

Postby admin-caroline » Tue Dec 03, 2019 2:09 pm

We were fortunate enough to be invited along to the opening weekend of the Battersea Arts Centre's Christmas production, 'Goldilocks and the Three Musketeers'. It's a pantomime, but not really of the traditional pantomime style, well maybe there was the odd 'he's behind you' thrown in! The show is written and performed by comedy trio the Sleeping Trees, who were frankly fantastic from start to finish!

As the show's title suggests fairy tales and well-known children's stories form the basis of the story line, so there's an element of familiarity for all. The story cleverly interlinks some of these well-known tales in a totally humorous way as the Three Musketeers go off in search of the lost endings to children's fairy tales, which have been stolen by bad Alice from 'Alice in Wonderland'!

It's fair to say the audience are taken on a high energy, action-packed, singing adventure; I mean the three performers simply did not stop! At one point they even performed their version of a well-known song from 'The Greatest Showman' with a Christmas spin to it, which my daughter absolutely loved!

Don't worry if you have wriggly children who find it hard to sit still for the duration of a show, as it's made very clear at the start that this is a 'relaxed' performance. Therefore it's fine to take a break from watching, go to the toilet or even to the BAC's chill out room!

The fun and witty nature of the show means it really appeals to all ages. As expected there were lots of families at the performance we went to, but also quite a few grown-ups there without children who seemed to be enjoying it as much as we were. Well, maybe not one man who was picked on / referred to quite a few times during the show!

'Goldilocks and the Three Musketeers' is on at the BAC over the festive period until 31 December. Go see it as it's fab and conveniently located right here in Nappy Valley!
