Overlooking Green Park with its stunning autumn colours (perfect for post-burger stroll), we were greeted warmly with all the Covid-compliance we’ve come to expect. With masks on, hands sanitised and temperatures checked, we were shown to our table and “our waiter for today was Tom”, who welcomed us to a little patch of America as we sat surrounded by mainly UK-born music memorabilia – clothes, instruments, posters, vinyl and photographs of The Beatles, Queen, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Oasis to name a few – with a smattering of other global names like Jimi Hendrix, Prince and Madonna. Incredible, and most of it has been donated to the restaurant chain, led originally by Eric Clapton giving his electric guitar and the idea just grew and grew. In between it all, are screens playing music videos so there’s an upbeat vibe as you wait eagerly for your food and bottomless soft drinks (that little patch of America..).
The Family Bundle is brilliant value with a great choice from burgers and chicken wings to pasta and fajitas and an ‘all in’ price for four or five hungry people. We went for the ‘Legendary Burger Bundle’ (as the only girl in our household and with a name like that, the choice was out of my hands) which comes in at £36.95 for cheeseburgers, fries and an impressive stack of onion rings. It arrived in a waft of delicious chargrilled aromas, with tasty looking skin-on fries and the pile of onion rings that had their eyes out on stalks.
All of it was really tasty, plentiful and hit the nail on the head. Hard Rock Cafe burgers were rapidly declared in the teen’s top three (once he’d finished wolfing it down…quite quiet until that point) which is impressive given the competition out there. Pints of iced Coke topped up as they munched added to the overall feeling of happiness and the boys finished with a ‘Cookies ‘n Cream’ milkshake each.
Our suggestion of a walk through Green Park and past Buckingham Palace on the way home actually went down well as they rolled out of the door declaring it to have been "awesome, delicious and now we're completely stuffed."
We couldn’t resist a quick look in the Hard Rock Cafe shop on our way to admire the incredible ‘Vault’ (the building used to be a bank, so it has those reinforced vault doors that you see in heist films – another win for the boys!). It houses more amazing memorabilia which any music-lover will love, and we made the now-compulsory family purchase of a fridge magnet featuring the year of the Hard Rock Cafe’s opening in London: 1971. Now you know how old my husband is.
