Lambeth and Wandsworth Foodbanks

Postby evali » Mon Nov 16, 2020 8:54 pm

UPDATE:  HISTORICALLY THE FOODBANK HAVE BEEN ASKED TO PROVIDE 500 CHRISTMAS HAMPERS.  THIS YEAR THEY HAVE BEEN ASKED TO PROVIDE 2000!  THEY FEEL THAT THEY WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO ACCOMODATE 1000.
LET'S HELP THEM TO HIT 2000.

I need your help, and I know you love helping the community.

With everything that's going on, its so easy to complain and moan but there is always someone less fortunate. So lets focus on the positive we can do or bring.

This lockdown is going to be hard again but for some in our community its going to be really tough. For some, its the next meal they are worried about. For some, their children won't be receiving a gift this Christmas.

I started raising donations for Lambeth and Wandsworth Foodbanks around 6 weeks ago.  Currently all food banks are closed due to the pandemic.  Lambeth and Wandsworth are offering a delivery service and are struggling to meet the needs of the 61% rise (figure taken before this current lockdown) in demands for food parcels, this equates to 6 parcels every minute. 7 out of 10 of these parcels are being given to people who have never had to use a foodbank before.

Lets change this and show our community how much we really care,

Please bring any food/toy donations to the Holy Spirit Church on Narbonne Avenue between 10:00 and 16:00 on Saturday 5th December.

What would also be absolutely incredible is if you could share the attached poster to friends and neighbours so we can make this Christmas just a little more special for the less fortunate in our community.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Kind regards

Lisa x

Lisa:  I'll certainly drop off some (tinned) food.  But, as for toys, if you happen to know, are there any particular types of toys that are more in demand than others?

Sorry Dimelda,  I never received this reply.  It is the older kids who get neglected.  So I guess make-up/nail varnish for the older girls and older boys I personally find harder but I guess Beanies or again toiletry sets?  I hope this helps?

That's a wonderful project; I'll certainly contribute, thanks for the information.

I'd also be happy to be a driver. The Wandsworth Foodbank website says they don't need any more volunteers at the moment, but if that's not the case for these Christmas deliveries, can you tell me how best to apply?

A very belated thank you for everyones huge generosity in December.  Over 2,000 gifts were collected.  Which is enough to ensure every family who use the food bank this Christmas their children will receive a gift this year.  In addition, we raised enough food to feed 100 families.  It was a very magical yet emotional day.  You have made this Christmas a special one for the children of over 700 local families.  This year you are all Santa Claus!

A huge happiest Christmas from me and the Foodbank x
