Lockdown birthday ideas for 10 year old

Postby Helpwithschools » Thu Jan 14, 2021 8:32 pm

Has anyone got some creative ideas for doing something a bit different for a 10 year old’s birthday during this lockdown? He’s finding it all a bit tough at the moment and I’d love to cheer him up by doing something other than our usual long walk on Wimbledon/Clapham Common on his birthday weekend.

Hi, it’s tough isn’t it for kids who look forward so much to their birthdays. How about making the gift giving more fun by doing a treasure hunt around the house. Are there other siblings? Boys of that age are keen on laser tag, could you do a laser tag session between family or siblings (ie with other household members) on the commmon? Good exercise and lots of fun. You can get laser tag sets for 2 players for under £30 online. Good luck!

A day of all his favorite activities? Let him show you and teach you about things he is the most interested in (perhaps computer games, LEGO, models), play board games together, let him help you with his favorite dinner. Also the idea above me: treasure hunts is absolutely fantastic! Even hiding objects around the house and leaving riddles here and there is an absolute blast!

A good friend of ours created a Kudoboard for her ten year old's birthday last week.  It's basically a webpage where invited friends can download pictures and videos to create a birthday storyboard and worked brilliantly. It's not an activity as such, but it was a lovely way for us all to share memories and fun times - he loved it...!!

Great not just for lockdown, but also beyond for friends that might not be there on the day.

Choose a theme and go all out with decorations and games. For my 8 year old, she choose Harry Potter and we did a HP treasure hunt with lots of magic and even a game of quidditch. Pinterest has loads of ideas. Throw in party games, cakes, and even party bags for your son and any siblings. Piñatas are always fun even if it’s just with them family. Definitely do zooms with family and friends. It can still feel like a very special day even during lockdown.

Hi, we can offer sleepover parties for siblings and support bubbles only at the moment. Also happy to come and set up a fun little tepee just for one. We have lots of different themes to choose from including movie night, gaming, jungle, unicorns, rainbows, and rose gold.
We have a covid policy in place, insurance, everything is cleaned, washed and sanitised, then rested for a period between bookings.
Have a look at our Instagram for more details @canvasandpeglondon.
We are based in Clapham and cover all of SW London and surrounding areas.
Do let me know if we can help in anyway.
Best wishes

We've had two successful lockdown birthdays in 2020 - an 8th and 11th. Started with favourite breakfast - pancakes, presents, family calls etc.We had virtual parties with their friends including indoor scavenger hunt - which were lots of fun with all the children running around each house looking for a red sock, toothbrush spoon etc - lots of useful list  ideas online. We had 'read my lips' movie titles to guess, and 'who am I? Famous people (yes/no questions). We used Houseparty app which doesn't seem to have a time limit, you can have up to 8 participants and there are games on there too. you should 'lock the room' once all your guests have arrived. We've used the pictionary guessing game on Houseparty and Karaoke which both worked really well. We finished off with singing happy birthday with cake and candles and then  because all of our friends were really local, we took a walk around our extended block afterwards to drop off cake.Finished off the day with a favourite takeaway and family movie.  In the end I don't think they felt that they'd missed out on any of the usual birthday celebrations!Best of luck!

Go onto 'Cameo' and get one of their favourite celebrities to give them a personal birthday shout-out!

For an 11 y.o we got 10 pals on zoom and set up a private game of among us. Worked really well and cost nothing. Also went large on cake and decorations and had a takeout meal of his choice from a local restaurant- win:win! Have a great birthday!!

If you want a good football party to run around the children, I could not recommend Powerleague Nine Elms more  - you can do party packages or just hire the pitch and do the party yourself.

Works really well for 10-15 children and I bet you have never even heard of the 2 year old place! The pitches are state of the art 4G
