La Baita, the lovely cafe at the bandstand on Clapham Common is closing on Sunday.

Always thought the coffee was terrible
Nope something replaces it though and it doesn’t remain empty.

I had a terrible experience there once where they told me a time they stop serving food at a certain time (dinner) and when I went to order it before that time they said the staff member didn’t know what they were talking about and therefore they wouldn’t serve me any food, even though I had a 1 and 4 year old hungry kids with me, a 25 min walk away from home. They took the last order 1 person before me in the queue. What really jarred was their attitude, I can’t believe they couldn’t even offer to make some toast for the kids. The owner was rude and unapologetic. Overall, I do hope it’s replaced with something much nicer and with more of a focus on customer service!!!

Rude manager, rude staff, no concern for customers who were paying their wages, over priced, very average tea, coffee and food.

Let's hope for something a lot lot better.

Aaah... I was wondering why the common no longer reeks with the bitter stench of nuked burgers and burnt toast!

'Lavender Hill For Me' have reported that, following the retirement of La Baita's owner, the cafe is set to reopen as a second branch of Battersea Park's Pear Tree Cafe.

I really like La Baita - food is delicious, authentic, properly cooked and not bought in. Will be sorry to see it go.

Very sad to see La Baita go! We spent many an hour there when the children were small, the place was a life saver! The manager and his staff were always very helpful and friendly. The food was made from scratch, with fantastic Italian dishes, fresh and healthy. I will really miss it!! Wishing the manager a great retirement.
