Thurleigh Road Surgery

Postby Tatianajames » Wed Aug 04, 2021 1:47 pm

Is anyone else struggling with still being turned away from Thurleigh Road Surgery due to Covid? I am still being told the Dr’s aren’t seeing anyone and that consultations are over the phone or if urgent go to A&E?!! Surely, with everything else being up and running, this isn’t right.....

Major problems seeing any GP at the Thurleigh Road Practice I honestly think it’s the admin staff rather than the GP’s.
This practice has really gone down hill which is such a shame as it was brilliant but we have experienced losing test results, cancelling appointments, failure to follow up on telephone appointments and appalling admin who actively discourage one from making appointments. Many patients are leaving and I don’t blame them!

This surgery has become a joke in recent months. Can never chose which doctor to speak to. Can never see anyone at all. The reception staff are so rude and self important they’ve even hung up on me recently so I’ve made several formal complaints! I’ve had a number of specific issues that were previously all dealt with by one GP but I’ve been unable to speak to her even since March. It’s so disappointing.

The surgery has indeed gone downhill. Cannot get through to speak to a doctor even if it’s urgent. Their stock answer is ring 111 or go to A&E. This is not serving their patients in the community.
They do not process urgent prescription requests even in emergencies, despite promising to. Ring again the following day, speak to another receptionist who promised to sort this out but promptly forgets and goes home... ring the same day in the evening querying if the prescription has been sent to the pharmacy...now I’m really upset and in pain, desperate for my medication only to be told the receptionist went home and must have ‘forgotten’ to process it.
Third time lucky and I got my pain medication on day 3. So wrong!!!
The phones .... oh boy! It’s amazing that many a time, after hanging on forever, waiting to speak to a receptionist that the phone gets disconnected.
I have witnessed irate patients outside the surgery (some were kept waiting half an hour to pick up paperwork/ prescriptions) with just one male receptionist dealing with the people outside and inside. There was open talk of how the surgery had gone downhill.
Thurleigh Road Practice need to ‘up their game’ and resume serving their community.

I've been going for nearly 20 years

I've not seen a doctor for nearly 2 and I'm totally fed up with them. Its beginning to cause anxieties over health . When you I last spoke to anyone it was a locum apparently, who didn't consult my notes nor give me adequate advice.

Sadly I have to agree. I was kept waiting for 55 minutes twice when I called recently. I was with them for 20 years and it got worse and worse. I have subsequently moved area and joined The Exchange Surgery in Gracefield Gardens Streatham and it’s like another world. Face to face appointments that are really easy to get. Get through within minutes, reception staff so helpful. Thurleigh road has wonderful GPs but I don’t know what had gone wrong.

A female I know rang with a suspicious lump to be told told 'sorry no appoinments ring back at 8am'. Rings back at 8am 'sorry all gone, call back tomorrow'.

Why are the GP's hiding away at this practice?

I believe that the admin staff have to front for the GP's and are under their instruction so they get the flak for being unhelpful. It is the GP's who are deciding to ignore people this way which is so neglectful as many illnesses like cancer diagnoses are being missed.

Same story at my gp surgery. You just cannot get through and forget about face to face appointments.
The rececptionist muttered something about a contract with the booking service which is to blame- I was clearly not the first annoyed patient.
Same story with Putney medical centre my old practice that ran like clockwork - have heard it has collapsed during the pandemic and only offering to ring in at 8 am to bag an appointment. Good luck with that.
I have no idea what the receptionist meant but I do get a strong sense that the Conservative government are DISASTER for the NHS.

What do you mean by changed hands? It is a partnership model. Some partners retired in recent years, current ones are listed on website.

Unfortunately I agree. We have been with the practice for 23 years and now looking elsewhere. They gave inaccurate vaccination history to my son and it was only with me stepping in and demanding to see the print out that it was resolved, he hadn’t been vaccinated for meningitis and was starting Uni.
Both my husband and elderly mother have had appointments cancelled at the last minute for no reason, I just don’t understand!
I think the drs are great but what is going on with the reception, if any of the GP’s or management are reading this please do take note as it’s just such a shame that the practice is going this way and perhaps some sort of consultation with your patients would help you to understand the concerns.

Enjoy the excellent joke above about receptionists while you can - I have it on good authority that they are going to be re-branded 'care navigators' to improve their self esteem.
