Where have all the song birds gone?

Postby chorister » Sun Oct 17, 2021 8:59 am

Is it just me (I do hope so) or have there been very, very few song birds this summer?  We live just off Clapham Common West Side, and have seen plenty of magpies, but hardly any sparrows, blackbirds, robins, tits, finches etc.

I think they get drowned out by the parakeets! In the summer if I was awake at about 3am I often heard the birds singing but by daybreak all I could hear was the screech of the parakeets. Have you tried putting some bird seed out to see what turns up?

I've noticed far less since our neighbour got their cats and they sit in out garden a lot. We used to see fledglings and little blue tits learning to fly but hardly any this year 🙁

Oh yes we've had bird seed etc out for years.  I'm afraid it may be the climate and environmental changes ...
