Heaver Garage - Please help

Postby Balhamresident » Mon Oct 17, 2022 12:22 pm

Can anybody provide some advice on what to do with Heaver Garage.

Heaver Garage kept my car for 3 months for a job I estimated might take 2 days.

They constantly told me throughout that my car had already been fixed and it would be returned to me that same day. They told me this for weeks on end.

I constantly confronted them and I was told every excuse in the book. They took money upfront(£1600+)

During one confrontation, after 7 weeks. They admitted no work had been done because they didn’t have any money. They admitted therefore that they had been lying…however promised that the work would now be completed.

Since I paid upfront I had no other alternative but to leave the car in their care for the job to be completed.

My car has now returned. An independent report provided has confirmed that no work has proposed my been completed. I now have 8 surprise parking tickets from Ritherdon/Huron road, despite the fact that the car was with a garage(which is located on that road) and should have been stored and parked with care.

I’m a single mother with a 2 year old and I’m very concerned about these tickets I can’t afford and how to reclaim my money. I did raise a dispute with the bank but they closed it unfortunately as they felt it might be more suited to a civil dispute.

So there are a few options open to you but I'm afraid that they're probably not going to help too much.

It looks like, based on what you've said, that they're in a lot of trouble financially.

To be clear, I don't know that myself, just based on what you've said.

You can:

1. contact the card company to see if you can get the money back that way. They may be able to help. If you flag it up as fraud then that might help as well

2. take them to the small claims court. This won't cost much and if your post is correct then you'll win. However they might not have any assets to pay you.

Good luck

Thanks for the below.

Moreover, I have just received the full report and it's much worse than I expected.

Not only has the original job that I paid for not being completed, but the vehicle has been damaged beyond repair.

It's an £13k vehicle, with 61000 miles on the clock. I have been told that my options are to have the car scrapped.

I genuinely am in disbelief at this moment and time....

I've also just received another ticket in the post...

Can this really be a functioning local business? How are they still operating?

You need to let your insurers sort this out, that's why you have it.  Have you reported any of this to the Police?  If not, you need to to.

For the parking tickets you just need to apply to the council to get them cancelled. Send in the paperwork to show you weren’t in possession of the car at the time the offences were committed and give them the details of the garage who should pay the fines. You have a very good case - if they refuse then take it to appeal but I’m sure it won’t get that far.

Please report them to Wandsworth trading standards officers and they may also be able to advise you.

The same thing happened to us last year with this garage! The garage kept our car for 8 MONTHS - and like you, we figured the only thing worse than not having our car, was getting back a broken one. We got the car back in the end after relentlessly calling, but shortly afterwards the same problem started happening again, so we ended up getting rid of it.
I can't offer any advice, but really feel for you and for you to know that you're not the only one!

So sorry to hear of your dreadful experience. If this is the garage on Ritherdon Road, opposite the cafés, then I too had an unpleasant experience with them. Some years ago I also put my car in to have some work done and the main guy (Omar I think from memory) kept it for far too long, the problem wasn’t resolved and during the numerous times I called and visited to speak to him to be updated, he fibbed me off, gave every excuse and wasn’t transparent about the issue or what he was doing. He also openly admitted he’d been using my car for his own personal trips! It went from bad to worse as he was increasingly over-familiar, quite flirtatious and over-shared about all sorts to do with his life. At one point I remember he told me he had killed a man in his country of origin. Whether true or not, I ended up with the view he was mentally unstable, not somebody to argue with and took my car and ran. Luckily my car wasn’t damaged by them and I hadn’t paid him upfront for the whole job, so I was in a far better position than you. I’m amazed they are still going as it’s a completely shambolic cowboy operation. I also think he deliberately takes advantage of female customers - that old chestnut of mechanics and women but with knobs on. Given what’s happened with your car being not only not repaired but actually wrecked, plus the loss of the money you paid upfront and the parking tickets, definitely pursue this via reporting to the police, trading standards etc as others have advised, so you have proper support for this. Once again, so sorry you have been a victim of such unacceptable and shabby behaviour. Best of luck to you and hope you get some redress for the losses and stress this has caused you.

Can't actually DM you as no contact option but please DM me as would love to talk to someone in a similar position. He had my car for 2 months, got parking tickets, pretty sure very little work done. Car now probably a write-off.

I have registered a complaint through CAB here as Trading Standards don't deal with specific complaints against businesses/individuals: Problem with a car repair - Citizens Advice

It's such as shame to hear that everybody has a similar story to tell.

I retrieved my car from Usman after months of waiting for my car to be repaired. The car of course has not been repaired and he happily allowed me to drive away in my car, with a child inside the car knowing that the situation could be very dangerous.

I can only assume he's taking our money and using it to cover his personal expenses, debts and rent. He is certainly not carrying out work on the cars and I completely agree with the lady above...he's an incredibly inappropriate individual.

If anyone else on here affected by this would like to coordinate and try to stop Usman from doing this any more, please PM me.

at the very least, please report him to the CAB using the kink I posted above.
