Amazon Kindle?

Postby Scrooge_in_SW11 » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:36 am

Does anyone have any positive or negative feedback about the most current Kindle e-reader please? I would like to buy one for a family member this Xmas but am unsure of the pros and cons of an experienced user. Any advice, most appreciated - thanks in advance.

I love my Kindle! I bought the slightly more expensive one with the keyboard and 3G as well as wifi. This means that I can buy books on the kindle, wherever I am, including abroad. You can also buy one with a keyboard without 3G which means you can buy books on the kindle but only via wifi which means you have to be somewhere with wifi. Or, you can get the cheeper version which has the advantage of being small but I think you have to buy the books on your computer and they then transfer onto the kindle.
The other thing I love is that I have got the kindle app on my iPhone so can read my book wherever I am. The kindle and phone talk to each other so they automatically open up on the page you are on. So clever!

Thanks Snoopy! A very helpful review for me to think about. What is the battery life like? I have an iPhone and the battery appears to get killed by the 3G/WiFi option but it is better on a Kindle then?

Battery life is good. It will last up to a month. Wifi does run it down but you can turn wifi off until you need it. Another good tip is to get the free newspaper offers. You can get two weeks free from each of the papers. I did it when I was on holiday in Spain. The paper was there on my Kindle when I woke up each morning. Very civilised!

Very civilised indeed, particularly given the cost of a decent British newspaper in Spain...(I have use of a property there so understand your point completely but have wifi there so read them online in any case from the comfort of my sun lounger by the pool)!

I think you have convinced me that the Kindle is a good purchase and I thank you for that.
