after effects of PND

Postby newmum83 » Mon Mar 10, 2014 11:45 am

HI everyone,
I suffered with PND 3 years ago after the birth of my daughter. I got better and got on with enjoying life. Then just after Christmas this year I had another episode of depression. It was triggered by a really difficult few days with my daughter which reminded me how I felt when I had PND.
Suddenly I felt like I was back there and really panicked.
I'm now getting better again, but I've found the whole experience has really affected my relationship with my daughter. I worry that I'll never feel the love I felt for her before this happened, and the more I worry the more real it feels. I feel quite tense a lot of the time when I'm with her and constanlty asses my feelings, so much so that it's all I think about. I'm doing CBT so I'm sure that will help, but I just wondered if anyone can relate? X

Hello

I'm afraid I can't relate directly but I am involved in a support group where I am sure that you will find people who can. If you search Cedar House support group on Nappy Valley you will find the details. The people who run it are really lovely.

Best wishes

Claire

Thank you Claire, unfortunately I live in Kent now, but still enjoy looking at this site. I'm getting much better, I think this is just the last bit of the jigaw. I've been having CBt and my counsellor thinks it's the worry of the PND returning that's making me feel anxious, and so I'm trying to forget about it and get on. Sometimes I feel absolutely fine with my daughter, but when she stresses me out it affects me way more that it used to if that makes sense. x

Hello, my sister had acute PND following a very difficult labour of her first. It's a situation she has managed since then with reoccurances. Support from her husband who has been a rock for many year was crucial. This together with medical support has helped her over the years. I can say that her relationship with her children, both girls, could not be stronger. They are both married themselves now and still live very locally to her.

It's a long road but isn't life when you think about it? It sounds as if you're getting appropriate support so keep that going and I'm sure it will work out. Remember you're not alone. Take care.

Hello

Had terrible, terrible PND with my eldest. Was extremely ill and on very strong medication for a few years.
Thought I would never ever recover. I was terribly ill but did get better. It takes patience and it took some convincing from many doctors that I would feel better but I did eventually. The numbness slowly disappeared and I noticed trees, grass and the enjoyment of a meal out again.

PND is recoverable more than any other form of depression. I wish you luck. Sometimes I worry it will resurface but at least I will know who to turn to far more quickly. I think GPs need far more educating about this dreadful illness which affects the whole family.

I wish you luck. Cedar House Support Group operates locally in Nappy Valley.
