Running club for kids

Postby luckymummy » Tue Sep 22, 2015 9:33 am

My son who is almost 7 is showing a keen interest in running and I would love to sign him up to some sort of after school running club once a week but can't find anything like that in Clapham or Wandsworth. We live closer to Wandsworth common - does anyone know of an after school/Saturday running club he could join? Many thanks.

Hi
Have you looked at Herne Hill Harriers - based at Tooting Athletics Track. I don't have any personal exerience but I have seen their Flyers around.

Park Run!
Free 2km weekly runs for kids. Nearest ones are Brockwell Park & Wimbledon Park but there are plans for one in Wandsworth too. They can run all over the country, events are timed and there are awards for frequent participation.

Hi

Body Logic Health in Battersea run 2 after school running clubs, 1 in Earslfield in the Autumn and Summer term and 1 on Clapham Common in the Summer term. Our Kids have been doing it for a while now and it's been great. They take kids from 6. The difference in their running has been massive. They video the children at the beginning of each term and then at the end and you get to see the difference in the children, they highlight what they have been working on during the term. It's really good that the parents get to see something visual to show how the children have changed their techniques. Our eldest son also does athletics at Tooting Athletics track on a Thursday but this is for 8 year olds plus.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the tip about the running school for kids, mouseg34! I found it online at http://body-logic.co.uk/the-running-sch ... s-running/ and it sounds brilliant and really reasonable too. Will look into that further..

Just to add to the mention of the Herne Hill Harriers at Tooting Bec Athletics Track. My boys have done a couple of days of their holiday camp (age 7+) before and really loved it, though they were worked hard I think! Incredibly good value too and they loved running round a real track, just like Bolt! :D

Hi everyone, I’m in the same position as the original poster here and wondering if anyone has more recent recommendations?

Many thanks!

Can confirm that Herne Hill Harriers is still going.
http://www.hernehillharriers.org/youngster-star-track/

My children did a camp and enjoyed it - lots of kids up to the teenage years, nice mix. Not the slickest in terms of promotion or organisation, but seems to be a labour of love of Steve's, who runs it. And great value as previously mentioned.

My company Lifemin has what we believe is the most comprehensive list of children's activities/clubs in London, with location and cost details, for when you're looking for less common activities like this, or looking for something close to home. (Herne Hill Harriers is on the list!)

If you sign up for free you get access to the list ;)
