Installation of 12.5 metre high telecommunications mast

Postby KatherineHepburn » Tue May 16, 2017 12:31 pm

Hi guys, if any of you live near Trinity Fields you may be interested to know that there is a plan to install a 12.5 metre high telecommunications mast right in the Conservation Area opposite the Scope on the corner of Trinity Fields.

Under new government regulations they can do this under 'permitted development' ie without planning permission. If like many of us you feel strongly that this is wholly inappropriate, especially in an area where so many children play, you can register your concerns here: www.wandsworth.gov.uk and click / want to...view planning applications. The planning application number is 2017/1986.

A similar proposal was rejected in 2006 in the exact same location on the basis that it would 'detract from Metropolitan Open Land visual amenity and fail to preserve the Conservation Area's character and appearance'. Any comments must be added by the 17th May and predictably the council only handed letters to those of us directly opposite, even though it affects many, many more.

If you protest about this you must say it is because of the loss of amenity value in a conservation area, and not because of the possible danger to children. There is no evidence that phone masts are a danger to health and anyone saying this will be discounted - phone masts can't be refused on the grounds they may be dangerous so no point trying to argue the case even if you believe it. But planning rules are strict in conservation areas so this should be your line of attack.

Thanks dudette, we have. It seems that there were plenty of people pretty hacked off with the placement.

I might give a better signal to all those drivers who think they can use their phones whilst driving in the traffic along Trinity and Bellevue Rd (you know who you are) - unfortunately we have a next to useless police force in Wandsworth when it comes to enforcing the law on mobile use, shame on you

This map might be useful - showing mast locations and areas with a submitted planning application around sw17.

Don't know how accurate it is (and some of the applications go back to the 1980's)

I did learn something - that there are two masts on top of the Ironsides Club on Burntwood lane - O2 and Vodafone :o

Never realised that!
