Locals' restaurant offer at Macellaio RC Northcote Rd

Postby MacellaioRC » Tue Jan 02, 2018 4:29 pm

Hi Everyone,

We recently moved to Northcote Road and would love to get to know our neighbours better, therefore we have created the following lunch offering which we hope you will enjoy!

Rump Steak and a glass of house wine served with one of the following for £12;
Tuscan extra virgin olive oil and salt
Sweet Gorgonzola and walnuts
Pears and Modena balsamic vinegar
Served with rocket and shaved Parmigiano Reggiano

Macellaio RC, is located at 124 Northcote Road, and is an Italian restaurant with an emphasis on the best quality steak, produce and wine.

Lots of love the Macellaio RC team x

Macellaio is absolutely brilliant, great food and outstanding service -- well worth trying if you haven't been. A great addition to Northcote Road.

Can you not remove the dead animals strung up in your window? I find it absolutely revolting.

Great news, I have been wanting to try out this place. When is the lunchtime offer on please, is it just weekdays?
I think your display of beautifully aged cuts of beef on the bone is stunning and shows you are a good steak restaurant that cares about the provenance of your meat, for what it's worth. Why should somewhere that specialises in meat shy away from displaying their goods?

I suspect you won't have much luck with this. The people who would object to this probably would never visit this sort of restaurant so there is little incentive to remove them!

Not saying I agree or disagree but I guess it's a bit like asking a butcher to hide their window display too - it's kind of what they do!

Because Lala they should be sensitive to the fact that not everyone views large chunks of dead animal with the same mouth-watering sensation that you obviously do. I find it offensive and revolting and I'm sure I'm not the only one. If they want to hang it up inside the restaurant and out of view then that's up to them but we shouldn't have it inflicted on us all when we walk past.

Dudette- using your logic, butchers should hide their meat display as well.

What about mannequins displaying latest fashion? Should these be removed as well as not everyone is skinny and some people find it offensive?

What about Odd Bins or independent wine merchants? Should they hide their displays as not everyone drinks alcohol and some communities find alcohol consumption offensive?

What about the kebab shops? Should they also hide their displays?

What about travel companies? Should they hide their promotions as some people can't afford to heat their homes, let alone pay for a tropical holiday abroad. Surely they will find paying £5k for a holiday offensive?

Please explain to me who will be the judge in determining what is offensive or not as this is a slippery slope....

NVHusband - you're being ridiculous. Shops have window displays. Restaurants don't. It's completely unnecessary.

It's not a window display, but their dry-aging room, and the butcher section is right behind it. The meat is brought over from Italy and dry-aged on site.

As a meat eater I do, however, find myself agreeing with Dudette.

Although I love to see the food in the window it is a little explicit and I can see that if someone felt very strongly about animal welfare and that animals shouldn't be killed then they might find it upsetting.

A few years ago I would have been more like "get over yourself it's a restaurant and they sell meat" but I'm trying to be kinder in 2018 so I can, as part of my new resolutions, see her point!

I'm a big fan of Macellaio, very pleased with the new addition to Northcote Road.

Dudette, really, too much to ask... Probably space is tight, so they made a call to put their dry aging room in the front...

good on you Dudette. If you go against the outspoken people on this site you will get shot to pieces and need a thick skin. Dead animals on display as window dressing is disgusting, but hopefully it will get some NV children thinking and asking their parents where the meat comes from and they will become lifelong vegetarians and animal welfare supporters.

By the by, I won't buy parmesan, pecorino again because the cows are treated extremely cruelly. If you care please check out: https://action.ciwf.org.uk/ea-action/ac ... n.id=82237

Shame that an offer from a local business is descending into an all too common food lifestyle war. Maybe it should be the subject of a separate post?
