I used bio identical hormones for over 10 years. I went to the Marion Gluck clinic. They were a god send and helped my joints not ache, helped me sleep and helped me sai through menopause.
I did develop estrogen receptive breast cancer last year and have had to stop them . I do not think they were related.

I used them to try to cope with migraine and other pains in my shoulders/neck/back etc. They were great - however about 6 months after I started using them, I developed pagets disease which is a type of breast cancer so I'd have to say - anything hormonal -- be very careful. I can recommend something safer - I went to a phytotherapist when I'd recovered and he sorted me out completely.

You can get them on prescription from your GP - there's no need to see a private doctor unless you really want to

I’m not sure that GPS can prescribe bio identical hormones - as these are specially formulated in terms of strength etc for each individual - however all GPS are now supposed to offer synthetic HRT to any women that needs it (in line with recent NHS guidance). Note that the proponents of bio identical HRT say that this if you are going to take hormone supplements it is better to take ones that mimic your natural hormones than synthetic ones! There is research to support the case for and against on both sides. I personally have found that taking natural progesterone has helped me through the oestrogen spikes that I am getting as part of the peri menopause. Natural progesterone has very little side effect (other than tiredness and lethargy if you take too much) whereas oestrogen (natural or synthetic) is linked to problems with breast, uterus etc. As you can see i’ve Become a bit of an expert in all this!!

I also recommend this book by Marian Gluck

GPs most definitely do prescribe bio identical hormones. You may have to be pushy, as some would rather dish out the synthetic ones.
