Family mediation

Postby urbanblossom » Mon Apr 09, 2018 11:59 am

Sorry for the unhappy subject - it looks as if my partner and I will split. At the moment it is not looking likely that this will be amicable although I really, really want it to be. We have two young children but we're not married. I really want to try and avoid expensive lawyers if at all possible, and am researching options for mediation. I wanted to check whether anyone on here could recommend any firm in particular. Thanks so much.

Hi,
I'm so sorry for the position you are in with your partner and so wise to want to go to mediation.

Wandsworth (Council?) runs an absolutely excellent mediation service that used to be held in the office section of St Mark's Church on Battersea Rise.
You have 2 sessions for free with 2 professional mediators. Then there is a discussion of how to go forwards and I you could go to one of them privately in their practices if you wanted to continue.

Everything about the sessions is first class.

I hope this helps.

Hi there, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I separated from my partner last year and we have a young child. We saw a really excellent mediator that I can heartily recommend. He was kind and thoughtful and considerate to both of us. We needed to not only organise finances (which is tricky when not married) but also schools and where we were to live as we both had different ideas. He took us through everything very carefully and kindly. It wasn't cheap but it was worth every penny as it saved us a lot of heartache and disagreements; he helped us to focus on what is important and to make decisions fairly. His name was Peter Burgess from Burgess Mee

Just to say that Wandsworth Mediation Service (an independent charity) is indeed still running out of St Mark's Church on Battersea Rise.

Their website is https://www.wandsworthmediation.co.uk/

So sorry you find yourself in this situation but you seem to have a positive attitude so I'm sure you'll get through ok. I would recommend Cressida Burnet http://cressidaburnet.co.uk/aboutcressidaburnet.php . She's a lawyer as well as a mediator so she can help with all aspects of a family split and she has also done The Parent Practice course so will have an awareness of the impact on your children too.
Best wishes.

Thank you SO much for everyone for this really invaluable practical help, and for all your best wishes. I didn't know where to even begin finding a route through all this at first, so thank you for putting up some sign posts. xx

Try Taylor Johnson mediation. www.turnerjohnsonmediation.co.uk
They are based in Wandsworth and are really excellent. I am a solicitor and we refer lots of cases to them and they manage to resolve them. They have two mediators, a therapist and a former lawyer so it makes a good combination. Good luck with it. Not an easy time at all.
