Formula milk

Postby Nw1981 » Sat Apr 14, 2018 8:57 pm

Hello all
We've just booked our first family holiday with our baby who will be 4.5 months old when we travel. The hotel have informed us that cow & gate liquid formula is not available in Greece, and we moved our son off aptimil 5 weeks in as it made him v gassy! C&g powder made him constipated or I'd just pack a load of that! Is it possible that aptimil won't be an issue now he's older? Anyone else been through this and have clever solutions? Thank you so much!

C and G used to make cartons of readymade formula milk which were a godsend when we travelled abroad. But wrt aptsmil, young babies often get wind and colic because they find it difficult to digest certain cows milk proteins. The digestive system develops as baby gets older so it’s likely that your baby will be fine on aptamil now that he’s 4 months. Certainly worth giving aptamil a try

I always took the small ready made cartons with us to save the hassle of finding it abroad. Split between the suitcases it’s not too bad but worth the extra luggage payment if needed for peace of mind. I might be remembering this incorrectly but we needed one extra for the plane journey back one time from Crete and I’m sure we could only find Cow and Gate whereas our normal one was Aptamil... Don’t take my word for it though!

If he’s allergic to cow’s milk protein there’s a formula derived from goats’ milk called Nannycare. I think you can buy it in Waitrose.

If there is any way you can take the liquid formula you use already you should do it. It's stressful enough travelling with a small baby without throwing new formula into the mix.

The added benefit of the ready made is that you don't have to worry so much about having a kettle in the room and what the water is that you are using to make the formula.

You often get extra bag allowance with a baby and you are able to take the buggy. With clever packing you may be able to pack formula round the buggy and put that in the hold and then carry the baby in the sling.

Also you can order formula etc to pick up from boots on airside so you don't have to worry so much about the whole liquids through security thing and it gives you another chance to buy more that won't be part of you luggage allowance.

If you cant I'd check the Aptamil version you used. There is one with probiotics ( pronutrina or something) which made my daughter really ill and then one without which we have found to be fine.

Have a wonderful time it's really exciting going on your first holiday with your new baby!
