Wow!  This comes on top of that awful mugging on Thurleigh Rd.  This is awful.  Have Battersea Police said anything? Is the area being target by a particular gang.  I think this is the third incident to happen in as many weeks.

Our local police response is to tell us to stop wearing our nice jewellery and watches. The same sort of advice the Foreign Office give you when you to travel to a third world cesspit.

I am glad the women didn’t call them a nasty name while she was been mugged as she would be in court on a hate crime charge by now..

There was a very bad mugging in Balham yesterday. Two men on a bike mugged a man for his watch and also sprayed him in the face with something.
They had a large knife. When is the Mayor going to do something? His promise to combat this crime if not happening.

Having been the victim of 3 car break ins a smashed windscreen and a violent mugging where my watch was forcibly taken....all in the last 3 months on Eccles Road, I would love to know what kind of security camera was used to capture this as we are looking to install the same.

Given the prevalence of criminals I have a high level of confidence I could capture some guilty parties in action. Whether the police would do anything useful with it is another matter.

Does anyone know the camera type?

Shocking and the police told me that they are powerless to stop this crime as their numbers are constantly reducing/not many are allowed to chase then when they get away on scooters.

Sadiq Khan cant possible be voted back in with this crime wave, nothing is improving - what is he doing ??

I am not sure what camera it is, but the Amazon Blink camera range are meant to be good, they have indoor and outdoor cameras

This is so alarming and disconcerting. There has to be more police presence on our streets.
What can we do as a community to help??

To be honest, who does need a £10,000 watch? And why wear it out to the shops on a weekday afternoon?
It's down to Teresa May's cuts to the police budgets, which from 2010-2017 resulted in 21,000 fewer police. That, combined with the Tories' austerity, means that people are desperate. Of course crime's going to go up.

I would replace the word desperate with criminal. If they are desperate they should sell their motorbikes on which they ride off once threatening mothers with young children with knives.

Bathtub what a response, I don’t care if her watch was worth 100K it’s her right to wear it where she likes without having someone attack her for it! I don’t believe these people are desperate just plan old criminals. I would vote for low income families getting more help from the government but not people like this who have probably never worked a day in their lives.
Maybe Wandsworth council need to put some more money into policing, dare I say I’d be happy to pay a bit more in council tax to ensure stuff like this stops happening!

Bathtub- are you for real?

You are victim blaming and also looking to blame the Tories.

In case you hadn't noticed, we have a Labour Party mayor, who is in charge of policing.

But he also has the same attitude as you... blame everyone else.

This is a serious issue, and doesn't need silly comments.

Bathtub, that's such a wrong response - people have the right to spend their honestly made money as they choose so long as it doesn't harm anyone else. If she wants to spend her money on a watch - so what? So-called "austerity" (i.e. living within our means) and TM have nothing to do with it and anyway, isn't it Sadiq Khan's remit to do something? Personally, I don't think it matters who is in government as there are certain individuals who are going to do scumbag things no matter what. As for them being "desperate", they look pretty well fed and confident in that footage. No, not desperate, just scumbag criminals who should be in jail.

The cctv footage is pretty good and they have come to and from the Kings Avenue direction so shouldn't be too long before we see their mug shots in the local papers.

For the person asking about cctv recommendations - I've got a Honeywell one with 4 cameras and sensor lights and found it good for the past 6 years (not bought from sds as it would have cost 3x as much ;). I got it installed by a local specialist (Holy Ghost dad) and if anyone is interested I will post his details on here ).

Gosh you lot are funny. I think she meant wearing a Rolex is a bad idea in London. of course we should be able to wear whatever we want but reality is reality. You wouldn't wear a Rolex in Paris or Napoli or wherever without the same risk. and given the state of the police cuts (Tories) cuts to youth services ( Tories) , no more stop and search ( Theresa May as home Secretary FYI) it is perfectly fine to say such a thing. Husband has a Rolex given to him for his 21st and it never even sees the light of day. I have a fair bit of OTT gold from my Iranian side which I hardly ever wear. I even don't like carrying a handbag since I had one snatched some 12 years ago. As a student living in east London I would be in baggy clothes and trainers and it didn't even occur to me that i should wear sexy clothes as I was looking after myself, I only did after when I could afford taxis. its called being streetwise and not sticking your head in the clouds about what's going on.
I will reiterate it is not the mayor who is on charge of police funding. it's is the government who slashed these vital services in London. Adopting Trump's/ Boris' attitude to the mayor isn't going to resolve anything. In fact you should support Sadiq's calls for more funding.

Bathtub is deffo a troll - 2 posts! A brainless troll. But trolling and lack of a brain tend to go together in my experience.

Hey bathtub, how about you spend your time working hard and I hope whatever you decide to spend your well-earned money on isn't stolen by these scumbags.

Star, I have lived in London for 15+ years and I would never of felt unsafe no mater what I wore. As you said it may not be the norm in Naples or Paris to wear expensive jewellery but I think most people I know in London would never question wearing their good stuff. I think the main point is we want London to feel/be safe and not for everyone else to have to change their behaviour because of the minority of scumbags.
