Hi all,
I've joined the forum to post about an attempted robbery last Saturday 1st September at around 4pm on Wakehurst Road behind Belleville School and encourage you all to remain vigilant.
I was pushing my two year old daughter along Webb's Road in her buggy when I noticed a scooter drive up from Bramfield Road outside Tierra Verde with two riders dressed in black. I heard them shout something to the diners outside and assumed they must have known one of them but they then proceeded to cruise up and down the street beside us, seemingly lost.
They backed up to the pavement where we crossed over Ashness Road and I thought they were parking but realise they were probably clocking my watch or preparing to jump me.
Either way, we crossed over at the same time and headed down Wakehurst Road to Northcote Road. Half way down they overtook me, drove onto the pavement in front of us and the passenger jumped off shouting, "Take it off, take it off!"
Clearly, I wasn't thinking properly and said, "Take what off?"
The driver put the scooter on the stand whilst the other guy told me that we could do it the easy way or the hard way.
Luckily, I have a 20 year old Tissot that has sentimental value but no material value. I explained this to him in a matter of fact way and they cursed and got back on their scooter. I'm surprised they didn't ask for my phone as consolation but I'm obviously grateful that was the end of it.
I phoned the police, reported the incident and recommended that they send a police car as a deterrent because they were driving around looking for another target. 45 mins later a friend said they saw the same scooter on Dulka/Webb's Road looking very suspicious. I called the police again to report this new information.
I've read about the most recent scooter attacks in the same area (quieter back streets off the main drag with residential footfall) and the use of knives or machetes to intimidate parents to hand over their valuables. Please be careful.
