Rutherford House Selfish Parents

Postby RutherfordHsePrnts » Fri Sep 21, 2018 10:58 am

If you are a Rutherford House parent then please can you help explain why some of your fellow parents think it's OK to totally block up a local shop's car park with your massive cars and then waltz into the school without buying anything and then waltz back and drive off?

This morning I was trying to get into Tesco on Balham High Road.

There was a queue of cars waiting to pull in so I sat and waited my turn.

When I eventually got into the car park I reckon 50% of the cars were RH parents who had no intention of shopping - they were just using it as an annexe to the school.

Those of us that a) wanted to shop and b) wanted to use the petrol pumps had to wait for ages for you selfish lot to clear off.

That might, just might, be fine if a) Tesco had a massive car park b) it was not rush hour.

But hey, we live in London and they don't and it was. So it's not.

So if you are:

1) the parent with the kids dressed up as <removed by moderator> - why don't you step up and claim your selfish prize of the year?

2) the parent who parked an <removed by moderator> estate right at the front of the forecourt and then proudly waltzed into school with his little child thinking everyone was admiring him and gorgeous family but who is so so wrong - we were all stunned by the selfish values you're demonstrating to your children. Why don't you step up and claim your prize too?

3) but the winner, oh my gosh the winner, has to be the man who parked AT A PETROL PUMP and then got out the car and took his daughter to school blocking up a whole pump whilst we queued for petrol -  you are the winner. You, as a Rutherford House parent knocked it out the park. But I have to say it must take some real balls to park your <removed by moderator> alongside that pump whilst people queued behind you whilst you took your daughter to school.

But wait, I hear all the selfish parents whine, I can't get my child to school any other way?

Well I thought catchment areas were so small these days that you would be able to take your self centred little family in a couple of smug of hop skip and jumps as you must live so close to the school? And what's even worse - there are LOADS of parking spaces a short five minutes walk away - you might have to drag your selfish self across a road but it might mean that you don't cause huge inconvenience for everyone else.

Today the Rutherford House community demonstrated, en masse, a smug self-centred selfishness that I haven't seen for years.

Well done RH, for a school whose motto is  LEARN. ENJOY. SUCCEED. you might want to revise it to TOTALLY. SELF. CENTRED.

You should complain to the headmaster of the school, I think they will find a way to bring it to the parents' attention.

I am really really concerned about the safety of the children and other pedestrians crossing that entrance to Tescos.

The road is wide (5 if not 6 lanes across) there is traffic from the South trying to turn right into the Tesco petrol station/store, navigating across fast oncoming traffic, and, in turn blocking the road behind them, a busy bus stop, building work on both sides of the roads with lorries often blocking the view, traffic trying to turn right out of Upper Tooting Park and picking a gap to zoom across.

The number of children and parents doing the Rutherford drop off has increased substantially and I don't even think it is a full to Year 6 cohort yet. That means not just more kids but more little siblings in buggies and on scooters too.

It is a real life Crossy Road, and I am genuinely concerned an accident is only a matter of time.  I hope not.  Rutherford House needs to be working with Tesco and the Council to work out short and long term plans - lollipop lady/man or school/Tesco staff by the Tesco entrance, maybe a set of traffic lights further up the High Road where Upper Tooting Park comes out to slow/calm the traffic.

Agree.

I almost wrote that but thought that my rant was ranty enough.

I've seen so many accidents on that patch of road and Rutherford House school should be banning their parents from using the Tesco car park. There were kids dressed up as characters from various stories today (it looked like WBD but it's not) all squeezing between cars and then a HUGE HGV pulls in to do a Tesco delivery. Literally with primary school children running around the back of it.

But hey ho - what's health and safety and the lives of children and inconveniencing everyone else when you have to drop little Tarquin off for his very important recorder lessons.

They've got all these lovely links to stuff they've learnt

https://www.rutherfordhouseschool.co.uk ... iuklo=ra2n

but obviously road safety is not important enough

I think it is a shame you have decided to voice your self in such a manner. I am sure that if you had contacted the school or headteacher about how strongly you felt about what happened to you today, they would have been able to apologise and reassure you that they are working on a situation that is currently complicated.
It sounds like you have a lot more anger towards the school than just an issue with parking and should therefore seek a meeting with the school to address your feelings in person rather than having a rant over a chat forum.

Heeeey, I've never been on nappy valley before, mainly because I am busy parking at petrol stations blocking up pumps..... just kidding, I'm your <removed by moderator> mum from today, parent of a child at RHS, just been bought to my attention that some chav was airing their views on what they thought about me and <removed by moderator> on this site. I will say this, if you'd have sat for long enough, you'd have seen that after dropping off my <removed by moderator>, then you'd have seen me then drive to the pump and fill my car up with 50 pounds worth of unleaded fuel to then drive to work...... I also grabbed a packet of salted roasted cashews by the till too while I was there...... is spending 50 quid ok with you to use the car park?? Let's hope you have a more exciting day tomorrow, the chronicles of a Tesco car park hey! 😂😂😂😂😂👋👋☝️

OP - Don’t forget those Argos shoppers who clog up the car park at weekends; mustn’t leave them out. God forbid you have something big to collect from Argos one day and dare to use the Tesco car park without buying a packet of sweets!

Tesco get a lot of business from RHS parents and I’m sure that if they complained we would have heard about it.

I don’t disagree with some of what you’ve posted but please don’t ‘tar with the same brush’ all of RHS parent community.

Hello RutherfordHouseParents person.

If you have a genuine complaint maybe you should use a more genuine name.

While I agree that there is an issue with parents parking in Tesco it’s not huge and your rant doesn’t do anything to help. Your rant also gets so much wrong that it’s hard to know where to start.

- there are 360 children at the school, the majority of children live nearby and walk/scoot/cycle in with their parents. Many of those that drive park nearby and walk the final distance - lumping all parents in together doesn’t really help your case.

- You reckon that 50% were RHS parents. That must be 10/15? Drop off is between 8:15 and 8:30 and in that short period the car park was used by a small amount of RHS parents.

- Catchment area: yes, it does have a tiny catchment area, but when it first opened 5 years ago the catchment area was much larger and so some parents come from further away in locations with no convenient transport links.

- Health and Safety: yes this is a concern, but I don’t see what this has to do with car parking? We walk in with our son every morning and have to face the Tesco gauntlet but we have no choice and generally everyone is sensible - even the drivers who use the petrol station. Road Safety is really important to the school - but again what is this to do with using the car park, it would be the same anyway.

- The pump incident: yes this is clearly rude, arrogant and irritating but don’t blame us all for one selfish incident.

- Could you explain how RHS would ban its parents from using the Car Park?

Please think again about what you have said, one selfish parent should not colour your view of a whole school.

Regards

Scott

Dear Author of this ‘creative’ article. This is the most pathetic piece I’ve ever read. I can only assume it has been written by an old grumpy and ugly man, a 40+ year old virgin, with no friends or family and children is what you hate the most cause you can’t have any. In your face! Boom! 💥 You don’t have the guts to grasp what it’s like being a parent and how challenging it is. I have no need to justify the behaviour of some parents, emphasise SOME, who do not represent the entire school. But you, mister, have no right to make those silly allegations. Haters will hate. Good luck to you, not really. Eat 💩 and die. I know I’m being childish, but hey humor is the cure to our society. I’m out ⬇️ 🎤 💨

My brother was seriously maimed by a driver who parked on zig zag lines outside a school.

He parked and my brother stepped out in front of him when he was stopped. He didn’t see my brother under the bonnet and my brother was dragged underneath the car. He was five years old. FIVE! The driver only got a 12 month suspended sentence.

These people who use their cars in Tesco and block other people at the pumps are inconsiderate, and don’t rank much better. They feel safe in their 4x4s for the 1 mike journey, but kids and car parks don’t mix well. Not your kids or others.

Troll me all you like and justify yourselves by saying you are not as bad as the criminal who maimed my brother.

But just think for a second about YOUR BEHAVIOUR.

Leave the cars at home, parents. And think road safety.

obviously parking for school drop off is a problem and hopefully the school head will hear about this.
maybe the shop manager and security will be made aware as well.  parking in a shop parking lot to drop off your child really is lazy.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for using NVN.

I'm removed a couple of comments that would enable an indirect identification of one of the children at RHS. I wasn't asked to do this, and it would only enable one to identify the child if one knew their fancy dress, but it seemed sensible.

Email me if you have any questions and please lets keep all comments polite and respectful.

There may (or may not) be an issue that some people feel needs discussing but that can be clouded out with insults.

Have a good weekend!

:-)

Hi, another RHS parent here. Sadly, whilst you may have one or two salient points (like the bellend who blocked the pump, wtf?), it has been lost amidst the sea of bile you’ve spewed, most of it inaccurate and seemingly triggered by your barely disguised contempt for people you perceive to be of a different social class to yourself. You are so, so wrong about the first two families you have attempted to shame. (Apart from the fact that waltzing man has gorgeous children. I mean, they really are, aren’t they?) And I’m mystified at how you have imbued our Headteacher with the superpowers that enable her to ban us from parking somewhere outside of the school site?! Unfortunately, all you have achieved is becoming the laughing stock of the parents (and don’t worry, we ALL know). But at least it’s given us all a good giggle over our glass of wine last night (too middle class??) so thanks for that at least👍
