Veronica Calabro

Postby judiblackstone » Fri Jan 04, 2019 1:23 pm

Does anybody know this woman or had any experience dealing with her? I found her through Nappy Valley last year as she offered her services, helping people to sell items on eBay. She came to my house in November with her 2 children, photographed some items on her mobile while I 'entertained' them. She left after 2 hours, I was surprised that she did not ask any questions about the items or photo any of them in detail that I could see but I assumed she knew what she was doing and I was preoccupied with her children. I paid her £50 for her work and any time involved posting on eBay - she was to get 10% of sale prices. Since then she has not replied to 10 emails I have sent, nor posted anything on eBay so I think I have been conned. I am going to contact the police as I don't want anybody else to fall for this and I have already given her a month in which to give me an explanation.  I thought she might have problems which could be why she had not kept to her side of the bargain but she has had ample time to contact me. I feel very silly for having done no background checks but she seemed very nice.  She was on Nappy Valley as Ronnie85 and lived in Streatham at some point. Thank you.

I don’t know whether I would take that as an insult, Judi.

If she takes 10% of anything she sells then maybe she thinks she will get so little commission from your possessions it ain’t worth her time. If you had family silver maybe it would be different.

Either way, after being ‘ghosted’ I would feel very violated and uneasy if she took my £50 booze budget and free childcare and wasn’t forthcoming when emailing her.

These types of scam are everywhere. A fair few of online and indeed nappy valley posts are scams. I got ‘done’ booking a villa in response to a post here.

Maybe I’m just incredibly naive but my first thought was maybe she’s been in a terrible accident? It seems a lot of work to do for 2 hours just to rip someone off for a mere 50 quid. Could be anything really, eh?

That aside, sorry you had this experience.

I would report it straight away Judi. I've been using Ebay a lot over the past three years and by the time Ebay and Paypal take their fees (which amount to 20%), it would not be worth someone's time to take 10% unless you were talking high value goods in the hundreds/thousands. I know it doesnt help now but I've sold for close friends and its always been 50/50 as its not worth the effort otherwise. It sounds as if this woman was a quick scammer... I'm sorry x

Wow what a nasty response . Having said that 10% is rather a low commission and should have set alarm bells ringing . Most reputable ones take 30% plus .
