Teaching Assistant Role at Wandsworth Prep

Wandsworth Preparatory School, is an independent school for boys and girls aged 4-11 located in SW London. We are looking for a creative, self-motivated teaching assistant to join our enthusiastic and dedicated team. This is a unique opportunity to work in an exciting new school in one of London’s most desirable locations.

We are excited to announce that we are now recruiting for the post of classroom assistant. This is a full time position in our Reception (EYFS) Class.

Job Purpose:
Teaching Assistants will encourage pupils to participate in the social and academic life of the school, help enable them all to become independent learners, help to raise their standards of achievement, and supervise and co-ordinate the work of other Teaching Assistants in the School.

Accountable to:
Deputy Head (Teaching and Learning) through the EYFS Coordinator/Reception Teacher
Work in partnership with: SENCO, outside agencies.

Duties:
Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction of the Head
Work in partnership with: SENCO, outside agencies.

Support for the Pupil
• Develop an understanding of the individual needs of pupils.
• Work with pupils on individual targets set by the SENCO and/or teaching staff.
• Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and educational
psychologists as necessary.
• Plan and undertake direction for one to one or small group teaching and
Intervention.
Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
Deliver structured interventions eg Phonics, Oxford Reading Tree, Numicon.

Support for Teachers
• Raise the awareness of teaching staff to the strengths and difficulties of individual pupils.
• Assist teaching staff in the monitoring and evaluation of individual pupils’ progress, providing them with feedback on observations undertaken.
Assist in the assessment of individual pupils
• Assist in the monitoring of pupil profiles for children who need learning support.
• Raise the awareness of teaching staff to any pressures on pupils which may result in behaviour problems.
• Provide support for teachers in developing effective approaches to managing behaviour.
• Assist in setting behaviour targets.
• Assist in reviewing statements of Special Educational Needs.
• Support for classroom teacher with displays, administration etc, relevant to the needs of the children in that class

Support for the School
• Support the development and effectiveness of teams by running meetings for TA’s mentoring new TA’s and organising training for TA’s.
• Translate school policies into practice for other TA’s.
• Review and develop their own professional practice and that of other TA’s.
• Complete training for specific interventions.
Undertake regular duties and additional duties if required.
• Assist in the monitoring of pupil profiles for children who need learning support.
Raise the awareness of teaching staff to any pressures on pupils which may result in behaviour problems.
