Wandsworth Council to stop private ownership of Roehampton Playing Fields

Postby Community Editor » Tue Feb 19, 2019 8:51 am

After taking into consideration the views of the community, Wandsworth Council has agreed to stop the current private ownership of Roehampton Playing Fields.

The council has now pledged to work with the community to plan a sustainable future for the fields.

Consultations will take place in the coming months, with the Roehampton Playing Fields Community Trust putting forward plans which will be for the whole community.

The Roehampton Playing Fields Community Trust is comprised by some of the main users of the fields, including: St James’ Cricket Club, Doverhouse Lions Youth and Disability FC, Putney primary schools, Nasir Cricket Club, and neighbouring residential groups, local amenity groups such as the Putney Society.

These are all represented on the Trust Stakeholder Board chaired by Justine Greening, MP for Putney.

The Council has agreed to open up a new process for how the Playing Fields are run and looked after so that our Trust can put its proposals forward.

A Wandsworth Council spokesperson said: "Our priority has always been to upgrade these popular playing fields and give local people the high-quality facilities they deserve.

"We have taken on board the views of the community and have decided to start the tender process again, this time highlighting the importance of the community and social aspects of the tender.

"We will be carrying out a full consultation and will invite new tenders, including those from community groups."
