Aldi’s Tooting store launches partnership with local charities

Postby Community Editor » Thu Feb 21, 2019 8:34 am

A supermarket in Tooting is donating surplus food to three local charities which are supporting vulnerable people.

Aldi will donate food each week to Ronald McDonald House at St George's Hospital, Community Action for Refugees & Asylum Seekers and The Canteen's Project in Graveney.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a 'home away from home' for families with children in hospital. These new partnerships are part of a trial between the supermarket and community engagement platform, Neighbourly.

Aldi has paired up a total of four stores in London with local causes that are now collecting surplus food up to five days every week.

The stores are donating perishable items such as fresh fruit and veg, chilled products such as yoghurt and milk, and baked goods.

The trial will continue until Spring, and if successful will be rolled out across Aldi’s entire store estate.Last year the supermarket donated two million meals to charity and expects to increase this by 50% if the trial is extended to its 827 stores.
