Putney schoolgirls' poetry to be published

Postby Community Editor » Fri May 17, 2019 9:38 am

Students at a Putney school have been have been highly-commended for their poetry in the recent national ‘Young Writers’ competition.

An excess of 20,000 entries in total were submitted to the competition, with an impressive 59 poems by children from Falcons School for Girls securing a much-coveted place for publication in the book 'Poetry Wonderland – Poets from South London.’

Pupils perfected their rhymes and verses after they were tasked with creating a strong poem using their imagination and creativity, not forgetting to take into account expression, originality and use of languages.

Headmistress at Falcons School, Sara Williams-Ryan said: “Poetry Wonderland certainly captured the imaginations of our young writers and they had great fun learning during this project.

“Encouraging our pupils to express their creativity is important to us here at Falcons School for Girls, while also motivating them to be academically ambitious.

"We are delighted that the work of our children is being recognised in this competitive challenge."

The book will contain work from children in years 1 to 6 from the school and will be published on 30 June.
