Backyard Cinema announce plans for permanent 250-seat Wandsworth site

A new cinema seating 250 people is coming to Wandsworth, but it's not your average night at the theatre.

Backyard Cinema will be hoping to breathe new life into the former television studios at Ram Quarter, made famous for hosting Ready Steady Cook and Saturday Morning Kitchen.

Having just signed a five-year lease with Greenland, the Wandsworth venue will become Backyard Cinema’s first permanent home.

Founder and creative director of Backyard Cinema, Dominic Davies said: “We’ve experienced incredible growth over recent years, building up a loyal fan base across London and beyond.

"Wandsworth residents have always been regular visitors to our screens and we’re looking forward to becoming part of the community.

“Our new home at Ram Quarter will give us the freedom and artistic licence to create more exciting, innovative experiences for film-goers than ever before.

"We have ambitious plans for the site and are already in conversations with a range of our partners to make sure a trip to Backyard Cinema at Ram Quarter becomes a real event for our customers.”

The movie company has described itself as a leader in the alternative cinema experience, as it uses themed backdrops to go along with the films themselves.

Forming part of Greenland’s wider re-development of the brewery site, it will sit alongside the completed first phase of new homes, shops and restaurant space.

The new venue is set to open its doors in September 2019.

What a great development!

I love submersive theatre and the extension to cinema is an exciting development.

As far as I can see this a similar enterprise to "Secret Cinema" ... Bring it on!
