18 new shared ownership homes for Wandsworth

Postby Community Editor » Fri May 24, 2019 11:15 am

Wandsworth residents are being offered the opportunity to buy a brand-new shared ownership home in the heart of the borough.

Heathfield Square is an exciting new development from housing association Optivo, in partnership with Wandsworth Council and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

Built on former Ministry of Justice land, it has completely transformed a once derelict space into 18 modern homes, ranging from one to four bedrooms. Shares start at £100,000, and Wandsworth residents are being given priority.

Bunmi Atta, Director of Construction at Optivo, said: “We have transformed this once derelict site into a tranquil, modern development built to a very high specification.

“Each home comes with beautiful wooden floors, fitted kitchens, generous storage and allocated parking spaces. They also have access to the local green and Wandsworth Common is only a short walk away. Heathfield Square is a hidden gem. It’s now a vibrant and inclusive community in the heart of the borough.

"We’re pleased to be able to offer Wandsworth residents this opportunity.”

Wandsworth Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Kim Caddy, said: “Wandsworth is a fantastic place to live - we have brilliant open spaces and amenities, but the knock-on effect is that the cost of property has gone up hugely over the last few years. We want to make buying a home here possible for people on a wide range of incomes and this scheme is a great example of the progress being made.

"Shared Ownership makes home buying more affordable and our Home Ownership team help people living and working locally to take advantage of it. It’s great to be working closely with Optivo Homes to give Wandsworth people priority to purchase one of these new homes.”

Speaking at the Healthfield Square site visit, Leader of the Council Ravi Govindia said: “Maximising housing options for people on low and middle incomes is at the heart of our Housing and Homelessness strategy. The council’s Home Ownership Team is working closely with Optivo to put forward nominations from those registered with the council who are interested in home ownership opportunities.”
