Loft living in SW18: luxury apartments at The Ram Quarter

Postby Community Editor » Wed Jun 12, 2019 9:46 am

Loft lovers will raise a glass to the launch of apartments at The Ram Quarter, carved from the former Young’s Brewery in Wandsworth.

For generations, the four-and-a-half-acre town centre complex was off-limits to the public, enclosed by high walls and corralled by a one-way traffic system that prevented any real sense of neighbourhood.

Now the old brewery is on its way to becoming a waterfront quarter with 713 homes.

Most are in modern apartment blocks, whereas Coopers’ Lofts comprises just 14 characterful properties in listed heritage buildings that incorporate a museum with original machinery.

The residents lobby features an ancient beam engine encased in glass, while the double-height lofts have the essential industrial vibe — vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls and steel beams.

The brewery closed down in 2006 after a beer-making tradition dating back to 1512, the longest in the UK.

Now a new boulevard with shops, bars and restaurants cuts through the site alongside the River Wandle, which has been opened up.

About half the area will be public space, with courtyard gardens and a market square.
 Prices start at £580,000.
