Wandsworth Council film follows HIV testing journey

Postby Community Editor » Fri Sep 20, 2019 12:18 pm

People who need to use sexual health services, or who want to know more about testing for HIV, can find out about local support in a new short film.

It’s important to get tested regularly because early diagnosis gives access to highly effective treatment that enables people with HIV to live full and healthy lives, and stops the virus from being passed onto others.

The sexual health services shown in the film are available across Wandsworth, Richmond and Merton boroughs.

The film was commissioned by Wandsworth and Richmond Councils with support from service providers Spectra-London, who are commissioned by the three councils to run outreach services, and Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust, who are commissioned to run clinics as part of Sexual Health South West London services.

It was developed in tandem with this week’s Fast-Track Cities Conference in London- the first international conference focused on the role of cities in reducing the prevalence of HIV worldwide.

The council’s cabinet member for health Cllr Melanie Hampton said: “This film shows colleagues tackling HIV and AIDS around the world about the work going on here in Wandsworth. But it is also a useful way to help our local residents find out more about the services on offer and break down any misconceptions or fears they may have.

“We have worked hard to make sure the support we offer through our partners is accessible, friendly and delivered with the highest levels of professionalism, respect and confidentiality.”

The Falcon Road sexual health clinic opened just under a year ago and provides high-quality, confidential and fully-integrated sexual health and contraception services. Find out more or book online at https://www.shswl.nhs.uk/clinic-locations
