Five injured as car ploughs into Tooting KFC

A car smashed into the Tooting branch of the chain chicken shop KFC leaving five people injured.

Mitcham Road, a major South London route, was temporarily closed following the incident, which happened on Friday (November 8) just before 10pm.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision, with one veering off the road before hitting the KFC and smashing up the shopfront.

The driver of one of the cars has been arrested for dangerous driving.Footage from the scene shows a cordon in place across the road and the glass frontage of the shop smashed.

The top of a red car has been cut off which often is required to rescue people from crashed vehicles.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 9.55pm on Friday, November 8 to reports of a collision in Mitcham Road, near Tooting Broadway Underground station.

"Five people were injured and they were taken to hospital, their conditions are not life threatening.

"One of the vehicles collided with a nearby commercial business and significant disruption was caused.

"The driver of a vehicle was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is in custody at a South West London police station."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We treated five patients and conveyed a number of them to hospital, two of them as a priority."
