Petition to save Contact Wandsworth - the charity for families with disabled children

Postby Community Editor » Thu Nov 28, 2019 1:32 pm

Local parents have set up a petition against Wandsworth Borough Council’s proposal to terminate the contract of Contact Wandsworth, the charity for families with disabled children, in order to bring the service in-house. (See item 6 in this link)

They feel it is imperative that this vital service remain impartial and independent of the local authority’s budget and politics.
  • Contact Wandsworth has been offering a lifeline to families of children with disabilities and complex needs for 40 years.

  • Contact Wandsworth are trusted by families, who often have to fight for the provision - schooling, housing and social care – which is under the control of the council’s budget and policies.

  • Contact Wandsworth’s status as an entirely independent charity is what makes it so invaluable to some of the most vulnerable families; there is no conflict of interest, they are there to help the families.
They strongly believe that bringing the services provided by Contact in-house, under the management of the local authority, will be detrimental to the wellbeing of over 2000 families and young people currently within Contact Wandsworth’s network.
