10 most popular female cat names of 2019 revealed

Postby Community Editor » Tue Dec 03, 2019 6:42 am

The most popular female cat names of 2019 have been revealed by Battersea Cats & Dogs — and it seems that more and more owners have given their cats human names this year.

At the top of the list came Luna (which was also the most popular for 2018), Bella and Daisy. Millie, Mollie and the more traditional name Dot are also among the top 10.

"Most of our female cats share their names with humans, which really goes to show how much they are seen as our equal," Rachel Saunders, Battersea’s Cattery Manager said to Country Living magazine.

"Sometimes cats come into Battersea with names already that they’re used to, and we give names to any stray cats that come through our gates. Once a cat has been re-homed, their new owners can call them by any name they choose."

Unlike previous years, when names such as Kitty, Misty or Tiger surged in popularity, owners are opting for less traditional cat names.

"It seems that rather than calling cats traditional pet names - like Fluffy - owners are instead choosing more traditional human names. It could be influenced by favourite characters from TV shows, or it could be that pet owners are just giving their cats strong sounding names to match their personalities!"

Did your cat's name make the list? Battersea’s top 10 most popular female cat names in 2019 are...
  1. Luna
  2. Bella
  3. Daisy
  4. Lola
  5. Coco
  6. Poppy
  7. Lilly
  8. Millie
  9. Mollie
  10. Dot
And what names might we expect to see in 2020?
Rachel tells us: "We don’t know for sure but we are definitely seeing more and more old-style names for our female cats, and would expect this trend to carry on to next year."
