Giant Advent calendar opens windows across Nine Elms in a different location each day

Postby Community Editor » Wed Dec 04, 2019 5:47 am

Bringing a whole new meaning to opening your Advent calendar, this year a new Christmas carol-themed ‘window’ will be revealed each night around the Nine Elms area.

The Nine Elms Advent Calendar launched with a theatrical flourish at 5.45pm on Sunday 1 December at The Turbine Theatre in Battersea Power Station’s Circus West Village, before opening at a different venue each night.

Theatres, cinemas, restaurants, cafes, pubs, churches, community centres, schools, shops, gyms, estate agents and marketing suites will be throwing open their doors each evening for free festive celebrations.

Download the full calendar of openings, trails and walks!

The last window will be unveiled at 4pm on Christmas Eve at St George’s Church, Patmore Street SW8, leading into a magical crib and carols for all ages.

Follow the trail!
From Christmas Day to 5 January all 24 windows will be available to view as a trail, providing a festive way to explore Nine Elms’ iconic landmarks and a great way to walk off the Christmas excesses!

Don’t miss the After Dark Musical Trail with the New Orleans Band from World Heart Beat Music Academy – they will be leading the way after the window opening at Pump House Lane on Saturday 14 December at 5pm.

The opening events will also provide the opportunity to support two charities working to support families in crisis and end food poverty – Wandsworth Foodbank and Action Against Hunger.

The Advent Calendar project is being sponsored by Garton Jones Estate Agents and supported by the Diocese of Southwark, the Parish of Battersea Fields and other local sponsors, in partnership with Wandsworth Council’s Nine Elms on the South Bank.

The calendar is co-ordinated by Nine Elms Arts Ministry, an emerging community exploring the arts, spirituality and social justice in the heart of the Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms development and a project of the Anglican Diocese of Southwark. Contact adventcalendar@nineelmsartsministry.org for more information.
