Following a formal review of the current support available for residents with drug and alcohol problems, Richmond and Wandsworth councils have commissioned a new clinically-led service to address the range of Substance Use Disorders in both boroughs.
The service will be provided in partnership with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, alongside Addaction, St Mungo’s and the Community Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (CDARS).
The new services, which will launch on April1, 2020, will offer an increased range of one-to-one and group support, with additional online assistance to help peoplemanage and recover. This will be offered from a range of sites across both of the boroughs.
Cllr Melanie Hampton, Wandsworth Council’s cabinet member for adult social care and health and chairman of the Wandsworth Health and Wellbeing Board, said:
“This new Substance Use Disorder contract will give people struggling with substance misuse the tools to tackle their addition and its underlying causes.
"The work we have been doing in Wandsworth to approach mental and physical health in a holistic way is already producing positive outcomes and we will further develop this co-ordinated approach with our partners as part of the new Wandsworth Health and Care Plan.”
Cllr Piers Allen, Chair of the Adult Social Services, Health and Housing Committee, said:
“Our continued investment in substance misuse services highlights our commitment to supporting the most vulnerable people in our community. Focusing on recovery and the support networks that will help people through the process will ensure the best possible outcomes for those in need of these services.”
