14 major South West London roadworks likely to cause chaos for drivers in 2020

Postby Community Editor » Fri Jan 10, 2020 11:44 am

Here is a round up of the major roadworks in Wandsworth, Kingston and Richmond.

They vary from upgrading the gas network, to constructing more cycling lanes, pedestrianising areas and even developing the link to the new Battersea Power Station development.

Wandsworth

Battersea Park Road, January 6 - January 23

Transport for London is doing highway improvement works to realign the southern arm of Kirtling Street to link into the new Battersea Power Station Development.

This means there is a lane closure, maintaining a single lane in each direction on Battersea Park Road at all times, which will result in delays at busy times of the day.

A3 Huguenot Place, January 6 - March 1

Work conducted by Transport for London will result in a lane closure Westbound.

Upper Richmond Road, Service Road from 349 to 393, January 13 - March 22

Wandsworth Council will carry out carriageway and footway reconstruction work, which will result in a road closure here.

Lacy Road, Putney, at the Junction with Putney High Street, March 2 - April 30

Works by Wandsworth Council will see this road closed as it is turned into a 'Copenhagen Crossing' which blends the pavement into the road to signal to drivers that they are entering a pedestrian area where they must allow pedestrians to move.

Plough Road, Battersea. Junction of York Road to Junction of Holgate Avenue, March 7 - April 18

Southern Gas Network is conducting upgrades resulting in a lane closure.

Kimber Road, March 30-April 27

Southern Gas Network is also conducting some upgrades here. This will result in a road closure during the period.

Kingston

Cranes Park, Surbiton, January 6 - March 2

Upgrades to the Southern Gas Network will result in a road closure.

B3370, A240 Ewell Road, Surbiton, January 6 - March 6

Kingston Council's Go Cycle scheme will continue here - there will be traffic-control with two-way signals in the period as adjustments are made to kerblines, line markings, traffic islands, footways and traffic signals.

King Charles Road, Surbtion, January 7 - April 1

There will be a road closure as UK Power Networks install new 33kv high voltage electricity cables for the new Lidl HQ.

Canbury Park Road, March 2 - April 12

Southern Gas Network upgrades will see a road closure on Canbury Park Road during this period.

B351 Queens Road, March 13 - June 12

Construction of new segregated cycle lane as part of Kingston Council's Go Cycle scheme will result in a road closure. There are a number of these across the borough, but those detailed here are the ones expected to cause the most delays according to one.network, which monitors traffic disruptions.

Richmond

Station Road, Teddington, Until February 28

Works by Southern Gas Network have been going on since September, causing delays due to traffic control (multi-way signals). They should be completed by the end of February.

A205 Upper Richmond Road, Barnes, January 6 - January 24

Cadent are conducting improvements to the gas network. The use of traffic control measures through multi-way signals is expected to cause delays.
