Have your say on Clapham South and Balham Controlled Parking Zone (H2 -zone)

Postby Community Editor » Wed Feb 12, 2020 7:36 am

Do you live in the H2 parking zone of Balham or Clapham South? Wandsworth Council is currently holding a consultation across the entire H2 parking zone to ask whether you wish to see your operational hours of the CPZ increased in the area.

You can have your say until this Friday 14 February.

The Council has received a petition from residents of Hendrick Avenue and correspondence / comments from other residents in the H2 One-hour sub-zone reporting problems with non-resident parking outside the existing operational hour.  It is understood that many of these requests have been made due to the displacement caused by the increase of the operational hours in the Clapham Junction CPZ (C4) from one-hour to all-day in February 2019.

The petition requested that the operational hours of the H2 CPZ are increased in line with roads in the H2 and C4 all-day sub-zones, i.e. from the current times of 10.30am to 11.30am to 9.30am to 5.30pm, but to retain the existing operational days, Monday to Friday. As the petition met the Council’s required criteria, we are now asking you whether you would wish to see the operational hours of the CPZ increased in this area, as described above.

Increasing the hours of control to ‘all-day’ will not affect the cost of, or require you to obtain a new, resident (or business) parking permit.

- Pay and display machines would need to be installed in the roads.

- Your visitors would be required to display a resident visitor permit or pay and display ticket (paper or virtual - pay by phone) when parking during the extended controlled hours.

Have your say
Please give us your views by completing the online survey below. If you need a paper copy please contact parkingpolicy@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk

The Council would like to demonstrate that any change has the support of local residents so a good response is very important.  Please respond to all questions even if you don’t own a vehicle, oppose the CPZ or amendments to it, because parking controls may still affect you or your visitors.Should you wish to make any additional comments, including support for alternative times / arrangements, you may do so by emailing parkingpolicy@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk

What next?
A report will be presented to committee taking all relevant factors into account.  We will write to you as soon as we have news of the decision and an update will be provided on the Council’s website here.

Information on how CPZs work including all current parking charges can be found on the Council website here.

"Your visitors would be required to display a resident visitor permit or pay and display ticket (paper or virtual - pay by phone) when parking during the extended controlled hours. "

This could get very expensive for all residents, especially when you have tradesmen at the daily emit cost is around £8

PLEASE fill in the survey ....

Please do fill in the survey.
This is nothing but a cash cow for the council and will in reality do little to ease any parking congestion.

In C4 it made no difference to parking but has now caused inconvenience to residents who have visitors and builders.

The H2 proposed change would negatively affect all schools in the zone, local businesses such as the Nightingale Patisserie and and all locals who enjoy the area during working hours.
Why should part time workers, flexi-workers, stay at home parents, unemployed , pensioners etc be penalised and pay?
This would making it extremely tricky for parents who have to use the car for drop offs and pick ups.
Local school parents would have to pay to attend any school events/Plays.
School staff would require permits for every visitor and for staff who need to drive.
This is not benefiting anyone apart from the council.
And this argument is being used again and again until EVERY ZONE will become pay and display!
How about they ease the displacement an and remove the pay and display?

Let locals LIVE and enjoy the area.
It would be the death to coffee mornings!
At almost £3/person per hour it’s not financially viable.
