Playgrounds in Wandsworth and Richmond will open this weekend

Postby Community Editor » Fri Jul 03, 2020 10:29 am

Playgrounds and outdoor gyms in Richmond and Wandsworth will reopen this Saturday (July 4) but gates and individual pieces of equipment will not be regularly cleaned.

Today both councils warned that they do not have the resources to carry out regular cleaning to disinfect equipment so its use is entirely at the user's risk.

For this reason residents are asked to not enter or use the play areas or outdoor facilities if they or any member of their household has coronavirus symptoms or if they are self-isolating.

Children are also advised not to use equipment if they are "clinically vulnerable".

Visitors should have hand sanitiser with them before entering the play areas and should wash their hands regularly, especially before and after using equipment.

They must also keep socially distanced from others unless they are from the same household.

This should be at least one metre, and users are asked to consider wearing a face mask.

Richmond has also announced that its multi-use games areas and skate parks will reopen this weekend.

Kings Field skate park will have an imposed limit of a maximum of 25 skaters at any one time, with a restriction to one-hour use to ensure safe social distancing.

Cllr Julia Neden-Watts, chair of the environment and sustainability committee said she was "pleased" facilities could reopen to help people keep fit and improve their mental well-being.

She said that the council has carried out a risk assessment and will provide clear signage to help people who want to use the equipment.

“We must remember that Covid-19 is still a risk. Above all, please make sure that you keep your social distance and wash your hands – immediately – on your return home," she said.
