Councillors can wear many different hats in their job, but children’s storybook reader usually isn’t one of them. However, lockdown has encouraged us all to get a little creative and Wandsworth councillors have been making videos of themselves reading children’s books from acclaimed children’s author Julia Donaldson, to help keep young children entertained during the summer.
32 Wandsworth councillors from across the political spectrum have been filmed reading household favourites aloud in seven different videos which will be uploaded to the council’s YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/WandsworthBC and other social media accounts. You will also be able to follow links from the council’s twitter account - https://twitter.com/wandbc and the borough’s schools will be encouraged to tell children and their parents how to access them.
Cllr Will Sweet, Cabinet member for education and children’s services said: “Your local councillors wanted to do something and positive for the children in Wandsworth who have been so patient during lockdown. So as part of our big summer activity programme, we hope you enjoy this series of seven videos filmed by your local councillors.”
