Work underway on £300k improvement scheme for Battersea pocket park and playground

Postby Community Editor » Wed Jul 15, 2020 7:56 am

Work has now begun to deliver more than £300,000 worth of improvements at a local neighbourhood ‘pocket park’ and its children’s playground.

The borough’s open spaces contractor Enable Leisure and Culture is carrying out a £316,000 revamp at Fred Wells Gardens in Battersea’s Vicarage Crescent.

The project includes replacing child friendly soft surfacing in the playground, rebuilding walls undermined by tree roots and widening paths and stairways to ensure they are more family friendly for parents with buggies while also improving access for people with disabilities.

New play equipment will be installed including a climbing wall and timber play castle plus the tennis court will be resurfaced. The project will also involve additional planting.

The playground will remain closed while the works are ongoing – but children in the area can use the nearby playground at Harroway Gardens in Yelverton Road.,

Environment spokesman Cllr Steffi Sutters said: “I am really pleased that the final designs for this playground and new play equipment were chosen by local people when we staged our public consultation last year so these improvements should be very popular with local families and our youngest residents.”
