Lambeth residents urged to take a PCR Covid-19 test by the end of today

Postby Community Editor » Mon Apr 26, 2021 2:23 pm

People who live and work in Lambeth have contributed hugely by taking PCR Covid-19 test in their thousands, after a number of cases of the variant first identified in South Africa were detected in Lambeth and neighbouring Wandsworth.

Those who have not been able to participate so far are asked to take a PCR Covid-19 test by the end of Monday.

More than 50,000 people in Lambeth have taken a PCR test over the last 12 days of enhanced testing, but residents and workers can still join this important initiative by visiting a local testing site, ordering a test online at gov.uk or by calling 119.

Ruth Hutt, Lambeth’s Director of Public Health said: “Thousands of people in Lambeth have joined this enhanced testing operation in Lambeth and we are incredibly grateful for their contribution. Enhanced testing will continue until the end of Monday – so I would urge anyone who hasn’t taken a PCR test yet to please join in.

“It is important to add, that as well as taking a PCR test, residents should continue to follow the current guidance which includes limiting your number of contacts, washing your hands regularly and thoroughly, keeping your distance and covering your face.

“If you test positive for Covid-19 you must isolate in order to prevent passing on the virus.”

Full details of the site locations and instructions have been published on the council website at lambeth.gov.uk/enhancedtesting.

Online PCR test kit ordering for those who are unable to access a testing site is also available via www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.

Lambeth residents should select the option “my local council or health protection team has asked me to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms” when asked why they are requesting a test.

All PCR tests, including those ordered via gov.uk, must be returned to a Lambeth testing site listed on the council website – lambeth.gov.uk/enhancedtesting.

These PCR tests are different to the normal lateral flow tests more commonly used as part of the routine asymptomatic testing. By using PCR testing, positive results can be sent for genomic sequencing at specialist laboratories, helping us to identify variant of concern cases and help stop their spread.

For people who do test positive, Lambeth has a comprehensive Covid-19 self-isolation support service for those who need it. That includes payments of up to £500 for residents on low incomes. To find out more call 0800 054 1215, 9am to 5pm, seven days a week or visit www.lambeth.gov.uk/self-isolate-help.

Residents are also being asked to get vaccinated if invited by the NHS for a jab. People with Covid-19 symptoms can get tested at one of several symptomatic local test sites in Lambeth, and should book an appointment at gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or call 119.

I am so happy when people gather and do good deeds. It's indeed hard for our government to organize everything themselves, while trying to better the economy. Still, a lot of people are afraid to get tests in public places. One could get covid right after being tested. It's so bizarre. I prefer ordering confirmbiosciences.com test kits and getting tested at home from time to time. I remember my first experience of getting a covid test. I sneezed like 5 times. I felt so nauseous after that. It was so unpleasant. Home tests are much more tolerant and I feel more comfortable.
