Wandsworth Council will once again be supporting Clean Air Day on June 17 and is asking schools, businesses and residents to do their bit.

National Clean Air Day is about raising awareness of pollution issues, supporting people to reduce the amount of pollution they create, giving tips on how to avoid pollution and working together to improve air quality. The theme of this year’s Clean Air Day is ‘protect our children’s health’. The council’s air quality officers will be holding anti-pollution workshops in some borough schools where children can enter a poster competition on the theme of London’s Lungs.

The council has sent information about Clean Air Day to all the borough’s businesses encouraging them to take part.

They can download resources from the Clean Air Day website, take part in a webinar and sign up for  Business for Clean Air – an initiative developed and overseen by Global Action Plan to get businesses to declare a commitment to understanding and addressing their impact on air quality. The council is also asking its staff and residents to visit the Clean Air Day website to download free resources and find out how they can get involved, including making pledges, sharing messages on social media and talking to their children about air pollution.

The council’s spokesman on climate sustainability, Cllr Kim Caddy, said: “Wandsworth is proud to support Clean Air Day again. I would ask businesses and residents to take a look at the Clean Air Day website, think about what they can do to reduce their carbon footprint, and get involved. ”We will shortly be putting our updated Air Quality Action Plan out for public consultation, setting out what the council is doing to improve air quality. I look forward to hearing everyone’s views.”
