A person has died after being hit by a train at Wandsworth Common train station.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called to Wandsworth Common railway station on Thursday morning (July 29) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics attended, however the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Southern Rail reported the incident at around 10.10am this morning and said that all lines are blocked between the stations while emergency services deal with the incident.
It tweeted: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Balham and Clapham Junction.
“All are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.
“Service information will follow.”
The company has since pleaded with people to consider delaying travelling until later today.
It added that if travelling now is a necessity, it is likely to take “considerably longer” than usual – giving an approximation of 30-60 minutes longer in travel time.
