Intro to YA (young adult) Fiction at Backstory, Balham

Postby denisewsw12 » Mon Mar 20, 2023 1:42 pm

Backstory, Balham's independent bookshop with words and wine (or soft drinks!), is hosting an Intro to YA Books on Tuesday April 11th, 7.30pm.

Yaba Badoe is a Ghanaian-British documentary filmmaker, and writer. She's written two YA novels and has judged book prizes including the Jhalak Children's and Young Adult Prize and the British Book Awards.

We're excited to sit down with Yaba and talk all about her experience writing for young adults and judging prizes in that category. Come to learn all about incredible worlds of YA, what it takes to create memorable characters and tell stories that inspire a new generation. Consider it an intro to YA.

Yaba will talk about her books, maybe even read from one of them, and then our Bookshop Manager Rory will interview her. Finally, there will be an audience Q&A where you can ask all about the landscape of young adult books, or Yaba’s own experiences writing novels - so prepare your questions! You can even buy one of her books and get it signed.

Recommended for all ages 12+. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets available online backstory.london or pop into the shop (71 Balham High Road) We are closed on Mondays and open 10am-6pm (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday) and 10am-9pm (Thursday/Friday)

Adult ticket - £15

Under-18 ticket - Free (but please register for your ticket as places are limited)
