Clapham's Venn Street Market named one of the best in the UK

Postby Community Editor » Fri Mar 24, 2023 2:58 pm

A tiny little market in South London has been named one of the best farmers' markets in all of the UK.

Found right by Clapham Common, Venn Street Market runs every Saturday selling fresh food and produce. The Times recently listed the South London market fifth in their ranking of the Best Farmers' Markets in the UK.

The weekly market sets up down Venn Street just off Clapham High Street, working directly with farmers and independent producers to offer tasty treats and often artisanal gifts. South Londoners regularly flock to the stalls each weekend to pick up the likes of fresh flowers, delicious street food and even French cheeses.

There's a constant roll of traders appearing at the market and you can always expect a hot coffee from Morena - using coffee beans from Peckham's Old Spike. Plus, there's the weekly Mini Maker's Market with the likes of vintage prints, kids' clothing, candles, ceramics and African woven baskets.

The Times wrote of Venn Street Market: "Saturday mornings in south London are best spent sipping coffee from Peckham-based roasters Old Spike and tucking into sweet treats from Olivier’s Bakery. Local growers and artisans pop up alongside street food stalls; you’ll struggle to beat the fresh handmade arancini balls with authentic Italian fillings."

Also listed on The Times' list of Best Farmers' Markets are: Truro Famers' Market in Cornwall, Stroud Farmers' Market in Gloucestershire and Tavistock Farmers' Market in Devon.

Venn Street Market is rated an impressive 4.5 stars on Google, with reviews saying it's "beautiful". Others write: "LOVE this market. Pops ups every Saturday. You've got flowers to cheese to fish and jewellery! Everything you need and all the vendors are so sweet." Another put: "Awesome food selections, really love this!" And one even wrote: "Mini Borough Market but in Clapham."
