Recommendation for online academy during summer holiday before entry Y3

Postby lily36 » Fri Jun 26, 2020 8:19 pm

Hello

I am looking for some advice for an online academy for my 7 yr old during the summer holiday.

The main aim is to make up for the lack of proper teaching during the last 3 months, so she starts Year 3 in good condition. She is neither behind not ahead, but I feel that she learnt nothing new for the last 3 months, nearly kept up with things she saw during the first term. I would like the teaching to encompass the whole syllabus for her age group.

She'll be abroad for the whole summer (I'll join for the last 3 weeks) and the grandparents won't be able to help much, so the teaching must be structured with some feedback from online tutors, and the system should ideally allow her to be autonomous with the programme.

There will be no perfect solution but if you would kindly share your experience and recommendation, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you.

Hi Lily,

Hope you’re well.

I used Charlotte, a qualified private tutor for my daughter from the age of 6 until her successful 11plus entrance exams. she previously taught year 3 whilst working at a primary school in Fulham so thought she would be great for your little one. We have been using charlotte remotely throughout lockdown and she is as ever amazing.

Pop her an email on skoric_87@yahoo.co.uk

I’m sure she would be happy to help! :)

Thank you.

I was initially considering a group / online school or academy or even an app, but since there is no recommendation maybe this means that there is no good provider and I might consider a private tutor.

With Thanks once again

Dear Lily,

I have been teaching for 11 years with students age 5-8 years old. I have been a Year 2 class teacher in a London prep school for the last 3 years, co-ordinate Maths as my specialist subject and also have a first class honours in English from University of London.

During lockdown, I was teaching my class via live zoom lessons so am set up for remote tutoring if this is something you might be interested in.

I am currently in London if you would like to meet in person or have a phone conversation to find out more.

Best wishes,

Have you taken a look at the Virtual School Programme run by the team at www.sophia.app?

Online classes are year group specific with qualified experienced teachers and max groups of two students per teacher. Lessons are live online and interactive.

Hi Lily,

We have a number of parents using our Mathnasium@home service for their children whilst on holiday.

The service starts off with an in depth assessment that identifies the gaps in his/her knowledge. That enables us to to create a bespoke programme specifically for your child and the live in-person tutors take it from there.

You suggested you would prefer an online service that covers all of the curriculum, so please note that we are a maths-only learning provider.

If this is of interest please contact The Centre Director Fiona MacKenzie on 0207 0787 000 or click www.mathnasium.co.uk/clapham
