Holiday suggestions for October

Postby Dilydream » Thu Jul 28, 2011 1:37 pm

Hello there,

We have booked two weeks' off work in October, but have no idea where to go with our one year old and two year old. I think that to make it vaguely relaxing we would like somewhere catered and definitely child friendly. We would like to leave the UK, but would not like to fly for too long as we are not too keen on the idea of a long flight or a big time difference.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

We have just returned from a week at Villa Pia which is on the Umbria/Tuscany border in Italy. It was only 1 hour 40 on the plane to Bologna, and then a 2 1/2 hour drive which was a bit of a mission but worth it.

It's a fully catered small hotel, totally centered around children. All your wine, spirits, milk, juice, tea, coffee etc is included, as is breakfast, lunch, 4pm cake, 6pm kiddy tea, and a four course evening meal for the parents. All of the adults sit around one big table for dinner each night, ski-chalet style, which we really enjoyed but might not be everyone's cup of tea. Up to 16 families stay there at a time so it's highly likely you'll find a number of people that you really get on with. It has a small soft play, two trampolines, tennis courts, sand pit two swimming pools, games room etc and we found it really, really relaxing. I have to say I don't think I'd want to stay more than a week, as there is very little to do (although you can get out and about in your hire car which we did on the Thursday when they don't provide lunch or dinner).

The only downside I'd say is that it probably isn't suitable for a child that isn't walking yet as the courtyard where the children play is gravel with some astroturf which isn't great on little knees.

The rooms were simple but immaculate, and cleaned every day. We put the kids to bed every evening while we enjoyed our dinner, happy in the knowledge they were safely asleep. We took our baby monitor to dinner every night just in case they woke but only did once all week. Have a look at http://www.villapia.com/

Hi, I second Villa Pia!! We went there in May and its a bargain considering the facilities.

It allows you to completely relax as the children are in their element and all the food, drinks etc that you could possibly ask for are on tap.

Hello,

Thank you so much for that suggestion. We were there last year and thought that it was great, but as there is not that much to do in the local area, I think that we will skip going again this year, however, really do recommend it to others.

Having had a re-think, we may brave a flight (for the weather) and risk the Canary Islands! I have heard good reports, but no idea where to go...
Anyone been and know of anywhere good?

Take a Look at nelson holidays. Just had 2 wks in halkidiki with our 15 month old and he loved it. Amazing creche if you want to use it with uk nannies. Can't recommend it more and the flight was 2.5 hrs and private transfer 1 hr.

Apologies that was supposed to say nelson, not nelson! One thing I wouldn't recommend is club med - we had a horrible time at their new Egypt club where we found staff rude and unhelpful and the creche abysmal in comparison to nelson...

Thank you so much for these great suggestions. My incompetent internet searching had not uncovered such gems. Now we just have to decide where to go (anywhere away from the madness of the last days seems appealing at the moment - v upsetting)...

Turkey is still quite nice in October - warm without the long haul journey. You could try Lykia World, which is all-inclusive (no cooking to do on holiday!) and is very kid friendly, with creche, kids club, etc. Here's a link: http://www.totstoo.com/hotel_lykia-world
hope this helps... x

Club Med in Hammamet in Tunisia fits the bill. It's not cheap but it's amazing for both parents and kids plus it's only a couple of hours on the plane.
