Passport

Postby dachshundvalley » Mon Aug 03, 2015 9:17 am

Hi, does anyone have any recent experience with the passport office, mainly how long it took to get your child's first passport? I'm sending my baby's off today once I've done the Post Office's check and send service so hoping it won't take too long. I'm just feeling sick and anxious about it as we booked a holiday last night for six weeks time... Why do I put myself in these situations!!!

Hi
I hope I can help, I've just come back from two weeks in Greece and there was a couple there who got into a bit of a pickle so I think I'm up to date on at least one part of the situation. If I'm wrong could any other NVN'er's tell me!

1. I don't know how long it takes to get a child's first passport but if you think it's going to be tight it might be an idea to book an appointment.

2. the passport office no longer do emergency passport appointments (as in same day) for children's passports but you can ring up to book an appointment. The people we met last week had an appointment on a Tuesday and had the passport in their hands on the Friday morning. They did ask the office to stress it was urgent (they obviously all are but some are more than others).

3. So I'd check what the turn around time for a new children's passport is and then if necessary look into an appointment as opposed to sending it off. I had to do something similar two years ago and ended up going to Liverpool but I did get it in time.

Good luck and do let us know how you get on

:-)

sent our sons and my husband's applications together in June (did not pay for the additional post office check), and received them both (though returned separately) within a week.

We applied for our son's first passport in May and it was back within 2 weeks. It may well have even been just over a week. I wouldn't worry too much I think the passport office have sorted out the issues they had last year. Enjoy your holiday! 8-)

Hi

I have just got my baby's first passport and renewed my 6yr olds last month. I was told it could take up to 6wks but we got them back in just over 2 weeks. The key thing is that they may do double checks on your info and to ensure that whoever is certifying your photos will be around in the next few weeks to give any additional info required for your application to be processed. If they are asked and are away on hols then your application is likely to be delayed. They did double checks on both my applications!

Ours took 3 weeks. Just make sure whoever certifies your application is available as the person I choose went off on holiday! It still only took 3 weeks though. Good luck.

We just received a text message that her passport is on its way to us! Phew! Thank you everyone for replying, I was really freaking out on Monday and was a bit upset that maybe she and I wouldn't go on holiday with my husband and other daughter. Super quick turn around as well from the passport office.
