Driving in the snow.

Postby juliantenniscoach » Thu Mar 01, 2018 8:29 am

Well the end of civilisation is nigh...........or is it just winter? Anyway if you have to drive over the next few days, I thought I'd share some basic tips from 10 seasons working in the Alps.

1. Don't use warm/hot water to clear your screen. Expensive mistake. Just turn your heater on max and wait. If you don't have a screen scraper then an old credit card or similar works well.

2. Take some air out of your tyres. Most garages will put excess air in urban 4x4's to save excess wear on the tyres. Take them to about 25psi and you'll be good to go. Unless you going fast somewhere you won't need the higher pressure.

3. Start in 2nd gear so that you don't over rev causing wheel spin at the start. This is especially useful if you are pointing uphill.

4. Do everything 'softer' and earlier. Causes of skidding are predominately excess speed. over braking and harsh steering.

Happy travels everyone!
