Rocker / swing recommendations that help wind / colic

Postby LisaB » Sun Sep 13, 2015 8:49 pm

Hi There,

Can anyone recommend a vibrating seat / rocker that they found relieved their babies wind pains / discomfort?

There are so many to choose from.

On reading many posts on various websites about wind / colic, many people say they help but I am not sure which brand to get.

Thank you.

If your baby appears to suffer with colicky pain, just run through what might be going awry with feed/awake/sleep pattern and the frequency of feeds in a day. Baby often display what looks like colicky pain symptoms but is in fact overtiredness/over stimulation. It is better in the long run to put good sleep habits in place (as early as possible) that can be carried forward and whilst baby will out-grow colic behaviour, he/she will also out-grow the chair, and you have to consider what happens when you have to put him/her down in a cot at night. If he/she gets used to being vibrated/rocked to sleep, then what would you need to do at night?

I work with a lot of babies where colic seems to be the problem, only to find that with a few tweaks to the daily routine, the "colic" mysteriously disappears. If you'd like to know more about how I work, drop me a line via my website.

Good luck with your search.

I'd agree with Hattie - I bought a swing for my daughter who was screaming every evening - it didn't help in the slightest and I spent a dreadful evening assembling it while she screamed, only to have to painstakingly disassemble and repackage it and send it back a week later.

With hindsight I am sure her main problem was overtiredness as Hattie says. She also had tongue tie which made her windy which interrupted her naps, hence the overtiredness. I started taking her out for long pram walks to make sure she got at least 3 hours sleep every day and the screaming stopped. Then got the tongue tie sorted and the wind improved a lot.

I expect that swings help because motion helps overtired babies to sleep (but a swing didn't work for mine, mine needed the pram or rocking in arms...)

Best of luck

Thanks for your feedback. We are working hard on our routine and I am considering all possible causes / solutions!
The chair was just an idea for a bit of relief for us all.
Thanks again, good to know of others experiences.

I apologize for bumping...just my two cents in this old thread

We had the Fisher Price rainforestĀ https://www.evababygear.com/best-baby-bouncers/, he never used the toy bar but it was the best in terms of being pretty flat and very comfy for him - the vibrations were a godsend as it was the only way he'd sleep for a while. I have to admit that we did get a second one, a cheaper Fisher Price one but with the same seat shape, which we found on offer and on the day following the first chair stopping working 5 minutes after JC had fallen asleep at 6am following an entirely scream-filled night. Sleep-exhaustion, fear of it happening again, i don't know, but we bought it, we kept it upstairs, and it was very useful!
